DMDL's unique method "meets students where they are" emoti DMDL, Inc.

was founded in 2000 by Orbert Davis and Mark Ingram. They have spent the majority of their professional careers as artists and mentors. Their concern about the quality and effectiveness of arts education for young people was the inspiration for DMDL’s curriculum design. Their goal is to insure that high-quality, standards based arts programming is available for all students, especially those least

likely to have access to the arts. Using a direct instructional approach that connects every day life to music, the DMDL Curriculum helps students improve perceptive listening, critical thinking and creative participation skills. Through practical application and integrated, standards-based content, the curriculum addresses national and state goals for reading, math and fine arts. Using our arts-based reading and math curriculum, we incorporate interventional Tutoring, Academic Coaching and Fine Arts instruction. Ours is a student-centered program, and using a variety of activities, each child receives skill-appropriate instruction specific to his/her learning style. Our tutoring initiative uses individual and small-group dynamics to encourage reluctant learners and build confidence in the cooperative experience.

When you nurture a child’s creativity you open a window of endless possibilities and give him/her permission to dream big! How are you fostering creativity in your children/students?

When working in schools we get a lot of questions and requests from parents asking us to work with the students on homework. As a supplemental instruction provider we struggle with this. We work on the SKILLS that will enable the child to successfully complete his/her homework independently but do not focus on the actual COMPLETION. With the increase of homework given out in schools we see the need for parents to request more time during the after school program to complete it. Are you in favor of more or less homework? Why or why not?
