•FRIDAY, AUGUST 9TH• BACKYARD SERIES IS TEAMING UP WITH TO HOST A JOINT EVENT AT

This event is a Release Party for SSW’s 2019 LIT Issue as well as a Fundraiser for the Blackstone Summer Block Party!

Poets and Writers from this year’s Literature Issue of South Side Weekly will be reading alongside a special selection of featured artists curated by the Backyard Series.
The event will start with an Open Mic hour inviting anyone to the stage! (limited spots|first come first serve)

All proceeds and donations form the event will go directly to the Blackstone Summer Project. We will be collecting new and barely used school supplies to gather resources for the School Drive leading up to the event!

Doors open at 7!
Open Mic 7:30-8:30
SSW 8:30-9:30
BYS 9:30-10

Free for all ages!

A CALL FOR DONATIONS!!

The Blackstone Summer team has all hands on deck to put this summer party together!! There is still a lot of room to participate and help make this bash the biggest blast we can create!

Whether you want to volunteer, donate food, school supplies, or funds for the project, we welcome your support with open arms!
Any donation will go towards the efforts of the Blackstone Summer project. The block party will feature a school supply give away gathered by the school drive leading up to the event!

We invite you to join us for a day of fun, food, music, workshops, and more! This event is FREE and for ALL AGES! Working with to offer helmet fittings and safety checks, professional barber for free kids back-to-school cuts, and to bring free school supplies for youths preparing for the new school year.
There will also be a special showcase of performances, including artists from the all-woman produced hip-hop album

The list of Performers, Workshops, Tables, and Sponsors will be announced in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned!!

This event will be preceded by a Back-to-School-Drive, with huge thanks to Porsha James, as well as a Backyard Series open mic fundraiser to gather resources and materials for kids! More to be announced soon!!

The Backyard Series

The Backyard Series is simply a stage of respect- a platform for artists to come together in an interdisciplinary capacity for elevation. Like an anthology, this series is an archived collection of experiences. The stage presents an uncompromised environment where featured artists have both time and space, providing room for everyone. By combining Chicago networks, The Backyard Series offers an experience to look back on for the artists, the guests, and for all future opportunities. The Series is about reclaiming the community element from what is now the institutionalized art world and bringing it back to what really matters; the art.

We come together to celebrate, share, and launch a community, inviting everyone to a stage set for you- share your place in a safe space alongside a talented set of performers for an evening.

This is an open opportunity for everyone. If you are interested in becoming involved, please reach out. This series is about elevation. There are no limits and there is no gate keeping.
