Theater Boleyn was founded in 2013 by Katie Adams and Serena Pomerantz, two theater artists who wanted to create a stir in the Chicago theater scene. Theater Boleyn is devoted to performing pieces of theater that will not only entertain the audience, but will also enlighten and give a newfound appreciation for the classical playwrights of today and yesterday. The powerful sisters Anne and Mary Bol
eyn, who lived in the 1500s and had high influence during the reign of Henry VIII, are the inspiration for Theater Boleyn. Theater Boleyn is committed to making Elizabethean, neoclassical, Restoration, and beyond understandable and enjoyable to the modern audience. We strive to get people of all ages, backgrounds, and means to simply go to the theater. We strip down high concepts that are often added to productions and bring them back to a focus on language, story, and theme, while keeping the productions fresh and exciting. Theater Boleyn is ready to show everyone that heightened language, corsets, and the past are relevant and accessible.
