Meet Pseudobombax Ellipticum—better known as the Shaving Brush Tree, but historically revered as xiloxōchitl ("corn-tassel flower") by the Aztecs. Native to the rocky dry forests of Mexico and Central America, this spectacular caudiciform has centuries of history, traditionally valued both for its breathtaking spring displays and folk medicine teas brewed from its bark and flowers. 🌸✨

​Before a single leaf unfurls in early spring, its woody buds explode into silky, brush-like pink or white blossoms that look like watercolor paintbrushes. As it matures, the base swells into a green-veined caudex with a pattern resembling turtle shell armor. 🐢🌿➡️➡️➡️

​Light: Give it full sun to bright, direct light. High light keeps the growth tight and the caudex well-formed.

You're now scrying into the Plectranthus ernstii aka the (Bonsai Mint)🌿✨ The plant was gifted by the homie Josh over at 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝, 𝐋𝐋𝐂 and they say when the clay works it Larry Thomsen!!! Go grab you a Vesselii or three!!!

History:
It was discovered hanging off the rocky cliff faces of South Africa’s Oribi Gorge in 1982 by botanist Ernst van Jaarsveld!!! This plant naturally forms a swollen, woody stem (caudex) that gives it that miniature tree look without a hundred years of wiring lol. Pinch the soft, velvety leaves, and you’ll get a subtle burst of fresh mint and camphor scent. Every collection should have one!!! ➡️➡️➡️

How to maintain:
​☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light. A bit of direct morning sun keeps its growth tight and compact, but harsh afternoon rays can burn the foliage.
💧 Water: Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Its thick stem holds water reserves, so when in doubt, hold off on watering.
🪴 Soil: Gritty, well-draining cactus/succulent mix(Ze's Herbs N' Spices). Root rot is its biggest enemy.
✂️ Maintenance: Prune back the top growth periodically to encourage a chunkier trunk and a bushy canopy. Bonus: every cutting roots easily in soil or water!
