Happy Juneteenth folks! Hope you all had wonderful, thoughtful & reflective celebrations this weekend. We are reminded of our 2021 Juneteenth Diaspora Monologues, 'Looking for Joy' and hope that you are holding on to your joy no matter the situation.

Our stage has gone dark for now...but it's only for a period of time. We miss you and we'll be back soon!

Log #3

This final treasure was the most precious of my trip. Spending a few days with my mother-in-law in Owo, the pace of life slowed beautifully to sipping lemongrass tea freshly cut from the yard, eating corn and coconut, and listening to mommy tell life stories in the evening when the light had gone. I relaxed into those moments, forgetting to take pictures of them, of her, as we were just...living. Later regretting my mental lapse, Dipo dashed me a picture of mommy from one of his trips to Owo.

Not everything or everyone escaped the camera though. Gloria, a 10-year-old who lives with mommy and attends her school quickly became my friend and tour guide of the school grounds and of the varied herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees all around the compound.

Log #2

Nike Art Gallery in Lagos Nigeria. holds one of the largest collections of artworks in West Africa with additional locations in Oshogbo, Ogidi, and Abuja.

The gallery was breathtaking! We were told it housed about 8000 works but that may be an understatement. We just couldn't take it all in! We did get to see the founder though, the regal Nike Davies-Okundaye herself! Ms. Okundaye is an artist that has been a champion of keeping traditional weaving and dying methods alive.
