Yesterday we spent a Girls Day in Boulder Junction and Minoqua area shopping at nurseries and gift shops and we stopped at Northfork Fin & Filet because we had never been and I was dying to go. We sat at the bar and had some drinks, shared this ahi tuna app and their disco gnocchi with grilled lobster. All of it was fantastic and the service was wonderful. Plus there was live music! Cannot beat that!

I know it’s a little late in the season but put this on your list for next year if you haven’t been. Andy’s pontoon saloon in downtown. Eagle River is one of the best places. Fun crowd, a really delicious giant pretzel with honey mustard, and cheese to dunk in, really great beer options!!

📣 LONG READ ALERT — I have a lot to catch you guys up on!

First of all, I’m sorry I’ve been MIA over here. I promise I have not abandoned Tipsy Housewife Travels!

August is always an INSANELY busy month for my recipe page, The Tipsy Housewife. This is the time of year when we start preparing the website and the recipe content for the huge amount of holiday traffic that comes during the last four months of the year.

On top of that, I’ve been doing a little revamp of the website. Nothing crazy, but I’ve been going back through older recipes and adding more useful and thorough information, especially answers to the questions people ask over and over again on Facebook.

Basically, I have been sitting at my computer ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, and my eyes are officially tired. 😂

BUT there is some good news for my travel people!

Part of this website revamp is finally making a real home for my travel content on The Tipsy Housewife website. I’ve been working on organizing Disney guides and figuring out the best way to break everything down so it’s actually useful when you’re planning a trip.

I’m thinking guides for food and drinks, individual restaurants, specific theme parks, resort stays, things I’ve learned along the way and all the little details I’m always sharing here that eventually disappear into the Facebook abyss.

I’m also working with my graphic designer on something I think is going to be SO CUTE. Since I am technically a recipe person, we’re coming up with a printable “recipe card” that is basically your Recipe for Success at the theme parks. Something you can save, print or screenshot and actually use while you’re planning your trip.

The reason I want more of this information on the website is NOT because I’m leaving this page. I’ll still be posting here like always. I just want the helpful stuff to have a permanent home so six months from now you don’t have to scroll through 900 Facebook posts trying to remember where I told you about a certain restaurant, resort or Disney tip.

And I have LOTS to catch up on.

I still owe you my follow-up on our stay at Saratoga Springs at Disney, and I’m going to start posting here again this weekend.

I also skipped Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland this year, and I have to admit, I am REALLY missing it. I absolutely love Disneyland at Halloween. But I am finally going to see Disneyland during the holidays this year, which I have NEVER done before, so I am very excited to experience all of the Christmas decorations, food and holiday fun for the first time.

Before that, I have my first-ever trip to NEW YORK CITY coming up! It’s technically a work trip, so unfortunately I’ll be working for a good portion of it, but I did manage to squeeze in a few fun things. And one of them should be especially fun for anyone who is a big Real Housewives of New York fan like I am. 👀

Then my mom and I are heading to Disney in late September for a fall Food & Wine trip, which I’m really looking forward to sharing with you.

AND THEN…I turn 50 at the end of October. I still cannot believe I am saying that. 😂

I’m working on a couple of special things for my birthday, including a trip with Mr. Tipsy and the dogs to stay at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. We’re hoping to make our road trip down to Florida with the dogs an annual tradition, so there will definitely be lots to share from that adventure too.

So while it may have looked a little quiet over here, behind the scenes I have actually been working on MORE travel content, not less.

I’ve missed you guys. I’ve missed talking Disney and travel with you. And I’m sorry I disappeared for a little bit while I got buried in recipe website work.

I’ll be back posting here starting this weekend, and I’ll let you know as soon as the new travel guides start going live on the website.

There is A LOT of fun stuff coming. Disney, New York, Food & Wine, my 50th birthday adventures, Fort Wilderness, Disneyland at Christmas and probably a few things I haven’t even thought of yet.

Thank you for sticking around while I’ve been hiding behind my computer. ❤️

I have a confession to make about EPCOT.

I go to EPCOT all the time, but I realized recently that I almost always seem to be there for a festival. Food & Wine, Flower & Garden, Festival of the Holidays…there is always something going on, and I get so focused on the festival booths that I sometimes forget there is an entire World Showcase sitting there waiting to be explored.

So lately I’ve been making an effort to go to EPCOT and enjoy the park for what it is, especially the World Showcase.

Which is how I finally ended up at La Cava del Tequila inside the Mexico Pavilion.

I knew this place existed. I’d heard people talk about it for years. But I rarely spend much time inside the Mexico Pavilion, so I had never really paid much attention to it.

That has officially changed.

On this particular day, Orlando was approximately the temperature and humidity of the surface of the sun. Walking into that giant pyramid and immediately being hit with the cool, dark air conditioning felt like entering another dimension.

And to make it even better, Mariachi Cobre was performing.

If you’ve never stopped to listen to them, you absolutely should. They are wonderful, and hearing mariachi music while standing inside the dark, beautiful Mexico Pavilion made the whole thing feel like such an escape from the park outside.

I headed down into the pavilion and found La Cava del Tequila.

They have a walk-up bar where you can grab a margarita to go, and I have heard MANY people say the margaritas here are even better than the ones from the outdoor margarita stand.

But then they offered me a table.

A TABLE?

In the air conditioning?

On this particular day you could have seated me next to a mop bucket and I would have happily accepted.

I sat down and started with the House Margarita.

Margaritas are actually not my number one drink of choice. Every once in a while I get a craving for one, but I’m usually ordering something else. This one, however, was excellent. Really well made, refreshing and exactly what I needed after walking around in the heat.

Then I noticed something very important on the menu.

Chips.

Salsa.

Guacamole.

Queso.

And, even better, there was an option to order all three dips.

Obviously I did.

This was WAY too much food for one person, but I did my best for the sake of travel journalism.

The chips were freshly fried, salty, crispy and crunchy. The salsa was fantastic. The guacamole tasted incredibly fresh and homemade and was refreshingly simple instead of being loaded with a million unnecessary ingredients.

But that queso…

That was the star of the show.

This was legit, creamy, delicious queso, and I would go back just to sit in that cool little tequila cave with a bowl of queso and a margarita.

Speaking of margaritas, I decided there was only one responsible thing to do next.

Order another one.

This time I tried their famous Avocado Margarita.

I really had no idea what to expect from an avocado margarita, and I wasn’t convinced I was going to love it.

I LOVED IT.

The whole experience at La Cava was just so much fun. It’s dark and cool inside, the atmosphere is lively and cheerful, and the service was great. There was a big family near me celebrating a birthday, people were laughing and having drinks, and it just felt like this happy little hideaway tucked inside EPCOT.

I cannot recommend it enough.

HOW TO FIND LA CAVA DEL TEQUILA:

Go inside the big pyramid in the Mexico Pavilion.

Once you enter, head to the right and make your way down the staircase into the main pavilion area. That is where you’ll find La Cava del Tequila.

It is actually pretty easy to miss when you don’t know it’s there, which is apparently what I had been doing for years.

So here is my newest EPCOT advice:

The next time there ISN’T a festival happening, go anyway.

Walk slowly around World Showcase. Go inside the pavilions. Listen to the performers. Find the little restaurants, bars and shops you normally walk past because you’re racing to the next festival booth.

There is so much more to EPCOT than the festivals.

And apparently some of it involves sitting in a dark, air-conditioned tequila cave eating queso and drinking avocado margaritas.

I am willing to continue investigating this matter.

THE DISNEY TIP I WISH EVERYONE KNEW: MOBILE ORDER YOUR FOOD

I was at Magic Kingdom today, and I noticed something that I see every single time I’m at Disney: people wasting precious park time standing in a giant line just to order food.

Friends. We do not have to live this way.

If you are going to Walt Disney World, I want you to learn how to use Mobile Food Ordering in the My Disney Experience app. And I especially want my fellow technologically challenged friends to learn it because I promise you, it is much easier than you think.

Mobile Ordering lets you order and pay for your food from your phone at participating quick-service locations instead of waiting in the regular ordering line.

And this can save you A LOT of time.

MY REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE FROM TODAY

Today I was walking through Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom and decided I wanted chicken tenders from Pinocchio Village Haus.

Instead of walking over there, getting in line, looking at the menu, ordering, paying and THEN waiting for my food, I ordered from my phone while I was still walking over.

By the time I got to Pinocchio Village Haus, my chicken tenders were ready for pickup.

Meanwhile, the regular line was OUT THE DOOR.

I would estimate that Mobile Ordering saved me close to 30 minutes.

Thirty minutes at Disney is valuable! That’s another attraction. That’s sitting in the shade with a cold drink. That’s shopping. That’s people watching. That’s literally anything other than standing in a food line.

OKAY, HOW DO I MOBILE ORDER?

I’m going to explain this as simply as possible.

STEP 1: OPEN THE MY DISNEY EXPERIENCE APP

This is the same Disney app you’re probably already using to look at wait times, Lightning Lanes, dining reservations, hotel information, etc.

STEP 2: LOOK FOR THE + SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN

Tap it.

STEP 3: TAP “ORDER FOOD”

Now Disney will show you the restaurants currently offering Mobile Ordering.

STEP 4: CHOOSE WHERE YOU WANT TO EAT

You can look through the participating restaurants, see the available arrival windows and select the location you want.

You can do this BEFORE you actually get to the restaurant.

That is the whole point!

STEP 5: PICK AN ARRIVAL WINDOW

Disney will give you available time windows for when you expect to arrive.

Choose the one that works for you.

STEP 6: ORDER YOUR FOOD

The menu comes right up on your phone.

Choose your meals, sides, drinks, snacks, etc. Many menu items can also be customized right in the app.

STEP 7: PAY RIGHT ON YOUR PHONE

You don’t have to go to a cashier first. You complete your order and payment right through the app.

Now go about your business!

You don’t need to stand around the restaurant staring into space.

HERE IS THE PART PEOPLE SOMETIMES MISS

When you’re approaching the restaurant during your arrival window, open the order in the app.

You’ll see a button that says something along the lines of:

“I’M HERE, PREPARE MY ORDER.” This still takes a little bit of time so I hardly ever wait until I’m at the restaurant to tap it. I usually tap it when I’m on my way walking over.

Tap it.

That tells the kitchen you have arrived and they can start preparing your food.

Then you wait for the app to tell you that your order is ready.

HOW DO I GET MY FOOD?

Once the app tells you your order is ready, DO NOT GET INTO THE REGULAR ORDERING LINE.

Look for the signs directing you to:

MOBILE ORDER PICK UP

Participating restaurants have a designated area for Mobile Orders. Follow the directions in the app or from the Cast Member, grab your food and you’re done.

You have already ordered.

You have already paid.

You’re just picking it up.

YOU CAN USE MOBILE ORDERING ALL OVER DISNEY

This isn’t just a Magic Kingdom trick.

Mobile Ordering is available at participating locations throughout Walt Disney World, including the theme parks, Disney Resort hotels, Disney Springs and other select locations.

Not every single restaurant participates, so the easiest thing to do is open “Order Food” in the app and see what’s available wherever you happen to be. You can toggle between resorts and parks to see which restaurants offer it.

You can also browse menus before deciding where you want to eat.

ONE MORE TIPSY TIP

Don’t wait until you’re starving to start looking.

If you know you’re going to want lunch around noon, open Mobile Order ahead of time and see what’s available.

Popular arrival windows can fill up, and sometimes the next available pickup time isn’t immediate.

I like to look while I’m doing something else. Standing in an attraction queue? Check lunch. Sitting down for a few minutes? Check dinner. Walking toward the restaurant? Put that order in. Once you order, you can go back in and modify the time as well.

For example, at Disneyland in California, I like to order these cookies from one of their quick Service locations in the first thing I do when I get in the park is order the cookies but I changed the time until the very last time of pick up so I could get them on my way out. This way I know I’m guaranteed to get them.

You’re already waiting for other things at Disney. There is absolutely no reason to add an unnecessary food line to the list.

I watched people standing in that enormous line at Pinocchio Village Haus today while I walked up, grabbed the chicken tenders I’d ordered on my phone and went on my merry little way.

Learn the app before your trip. There’s also lots of videos on YouTube. You can watch that will teach you how to use this.

I promise, Mobile Ordering is one of the easiest ways
to get some of your Disney vacation time back.

And at Disney, time is basically money.

* oh also pictured is the chicken tenders that I ordered from Pinocchio’s Village house. I get them under the allergy friendly category because I think they’re way better than the regular. They are gluten-free. They are so crispy and juicy and delicious.
