Ain’t gonna BS you—if I spot a tool sitting on the side of the road while I’m rolling into work, I’m stopping. 😂 I don’t care if I’m already running late; a good tool is a good tool! You never know when you’ll need an extra pair of cutters, pliers, or something random in the toolbox. If it’s still in decent shape, it’s coming home with me. That’s just how mechanics operate. 🔧

Good Enough for a DIY Brake Job?

I’m getting ready to bleed the brakes on my car and came across this Pittsburgh 16-piece brake bleeder and vacuum pump kit at Harbor Freight for about $26.

For those of you who have used one, is this kit good enough for a basic DIY brake bleed and vacuum testing? I’m not looking to spend a fortune on professional equipment, just want something that will get the job done without causing headaches.

Would you buy it?

Where do you keep all your “extra” bolts? 😂

This little guy rolled out from underneath the jack after I finished the job. I have absolutely no idea where it came from, and now I’m wondering if I accidentally left something important loose! Has this ever happened to you? You finish a repair, everything seems fine, and then you find a mystery bolt on the floor. Should I be worried? 🔧

How Do I Clean All This Oily Stuff Out of My Engine?

I hit a bump and the top cover of my engine came off. When I looked inside, I was honestly shocked by how dirty and oily everything is.

What’s the safest and best way to clean all this buildup out? Can I use brake cleaner, engine degreaser, or some other product, or should I avoid spraying anything directly in there?

I definitely don’t want to damage the cams, seals, or anything else. What would you guys recommend?

Mechanic Says I Need a Head Gasket

My mechanic says I need a head gasket replacement, and honestly, I’m starting to wonder if I’m getting ripped off. He wants to charge me for replacing the entire head gasket, but looking at the gasket myself, the two outer cylinders still look pretty good to me. I’m not very experienced with engine work, though, so maybe I’m missing something obvious. Does this gasket actually look bad enough to require replacement, or am I overthinking it?

Think I can make these tires last another five months?

I noticed the tread is getting pretty worn, and there’s some noticeable wear down the center of the tire. I’m trying to decide whether I should replace them now or if they can safely get me through the next five months. I don’t drive aggressively, but I do need the car regularly. Would you risk running these a little longer, or replace them now?

Should I Be Concerned About This Much Overspray?

I just got my 350 back from being rebuilt, and honestly, I’m not exactly impressed with the paint job. Am I being too critical, or does this look like too much overspray?

I’m especially concerned about paint getting onto the gasket surfaces. I’m not sure about the valves and springs, but I’d think those areas should have been protected.

They also gave me a set of Enginetech “Fire Seal” gaskets and an Elgin oil pump. Are those decent parts worth using, or should I spend a little more for a better brand? Thanks, y’all!

How do I remove this seized rotor?

I’ve been trying to get this rotor off, but it’s completely stuck and won’t budge. I’ve tried hitting it with a hammer, but I’m worried about damaging the hub or other components. The rotor is already in rough shape and needs to be replaced anyway. What’s the safest and most effective way to break it loose? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Help! I Overtorqued the Crap Out of a Spark Plug 😭

First time changing a spark plug, and I’m not sure if my torque wrench is broken or if I’m just an idiot. It didn’t stop when it was supposed to, and I ended up snapping the spark plug clean in half. Thankfully, I think all the ceramic came out pretty easily.

**Update:** I managed to get the broken plug out using a Walmart screw extractor! Turns out I didn’t hear the torque wrench click, so I went full gorilla mode. The wrench was initially set to 16 ft-lbs, then I lowered it to 10 ft-lbs when I still didn’t hear the click. The plugs came from AutoZone, and I’ve verified they’re supposed to be 16 ft-lbs.

Vehicle is a **2020 Honda CR-V Touring**. Hopefully I didn’t damage anything else. What should I check before installing the new plug?

Chipped Rotor — EMERGENCY! 🚨

I just noticed this chip/damage on my brake rotor and I’m wondering if it could cause problems with the caliper once I put the wheel back on and start braking.

The rotor doesn’t look completely destroyed, but I definitely don’t want to risk damaging the caliper or, more importantly, losing braking ability.

This is a **2015 VW GTI**. Is this safe to drive, or should I replace the rotor before driving anywhere?

What would you guys do?
