1997, the demolition of Idful Music Corp. I couldn’t bear to watch our vile landlord tear the recording studio down, so John Humphrey bore witness. It only took an hour to reduce it to rubble. This pic is looking at the still-standing iso booth, the control room is the heap to the left. I still take comfort in knowing that our terrible landlord later went to prison for bribing a city councilman. Nothing lasts forever but a conviction lasts longer than most things. This was the official Idful Music Corp. t-shirt, with the catchy phrase "F**k Idful" on the front. Marketing genius.

In 1988, Barry Deck designed our business cards (in addition to the Idful logo, track sheets, stationary & invoices). We came across a stash of these cards this week. They are too wide, too tall, too full of info & they are awesome.

1520 N. Damen has been through come changes: first a Jewel grocery store, then a variety of small businesses: Maria's Tacos, laundromat, medical care facility, an architectural modeling business, the beloved Rama Mart & of course Idful Music Corporation. 1520 was a 3-legged dog in the real estate world, a real dump that should have been torn down 30 years ago. Nothing worked quite right & the management was usually absent. But most of the tenants were earnest, smart & funny people & we shared some serious gallows humor about our toilets, the crappy mail service, the belligerent police & the constant break-ins. This WBEZ article goes into some details about 1520 & Wicker Park now, but that building will forever be the 90's for me & the 90's smelled like taco meat & laundry detergent.
