Join acclaimed Chicago historian Shermann "Dilla" Thomas and artist Jeff Carter for a bus tour of Bronzeville and an artist-led visit to The Singer Pavilion Project exhibition 🚌⁠

The exhibition examines the history and legacy of the Singer Pavilion, the last remaining building as part of the Michael Reese Memorial Hospital, through a series of sculptures and artworks across media. The bus tour, led by Dilla, will focus on the history of the neighborhood surrounding the former Michael Reese Memorial Hospital.⁠

You have a little less than two weeks left to experience Hyde Park through ’s eyes. Cooler by the Lake closes June 14 🎨

For nearly two decades, Toebbe has lived in this Southside Chicago neighborhood with her husband, working and raising her two daughters and stepson. Toebbe’s domestic paintings explore the people, places, culture, and climate that are woven into her daily routine as a working artist and mother—home, garden, studio, grocery store, bakery, park, and local school.

Her densely composed multi-point-of-view vignettes capture the sensory impressions and memory layers accumulated in hours and days spent in Hyde Park, meditating on the realization that this is the neighborhood her children know as home and where Toebbe and her husband will grow old. Stop by the Art Center to see the show before it closes!

The Art Center will be closed on May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

Starting on Tuesday, May 26, the Art Center will be open during regular hours.

Tuesday – Thursday, 10am – 7pm
Friday, 10am – 4:30pm
Saturday, 10am – 4pm
Sunday, 11am – 4pm

There’s still time to register for Creativity Camp 2026 at Hyde Park Art Center, running June 8–August 21 for kids ages 4–13 (Rising Pre-K–Rising 8th Grade). Our visual and performing arts camps invite young artists to explore, experiment, and create alongside professional teaching artists in our multi-media studios. With hands-on projects, inspiration from our exhibitions, and a welcoming, creative environment, Creativity Camp is a fun and meaningful way to spend the summer.

The Hyde Park Art Center is thrilled to announce a new program within the umbrella of its Jackman Goldwasser Residency. Built on our desire to support creative exchange between Chicago and other Midwest Artist Hubs, The Midwest Curatorial Residency supports the hosting of local curators from across the Midwestern United States for a durational or series of short visits to Chicago. The Art Center seeks to connect Chicago to the rest of the Midwest through conversation, studio visits and gathering.

We are excited to introduce Chava Maeve Krivchenia as the inaugural Midwest Curatorial Resident at Hyde Park Art Center from June 1-7 and June 15 -21, 2026.

Chava Maeve Krivchenia is a curator and writer and serves as the Assistant Curator at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI). With a professional and academic background in ecology and art history, her research and curatorial practices center on the intersection of contemporary art and ecology, discard studies, and natural histories.
