So, I saw that was the tag to use for faerie costumes this year and boy have I got a photo dump! I have been in love with Holly Black’s works since at least 2005 when I discovered Tithe. I love my old paperbacks and they bring me such special memories. I was actually Kaye again for my Halloween party this year but things got a little too messy for me to share pix (I might have proposed to my faerie boyfriend while drunk).

I can honestly say 13 year old me is so happy with this cosplay. Holly Black’s Modern Tales of Faerie were really influential on me growing up, and I treasure my first editions with their gorgeously edgy covers. I always resonated with Val more but on a recent reread I really connected with Kaye deeper than I had as a teen.

Can I just talk about how pretty the editing is for a second? A great use of bokeh. This was fun to shoot because I had to stand in a flowerbed without getting stabbed with bushes lol.
Giorno deserves to be covered in flowers. One of these days I’ll learn to use flowers in makeup and make that happen lol.

I had a lot of fun making Dinah and creating a cake dress. I even learned how to pipe frosting (plaster), which is a skill to add to the repertoire. Rereading Bizenghast recently was such a treat and while I wish it had been longer, it’s still a great series.

I had so much fun doing this shoot and honestly all of the shots came out so great. I’ve wanted to cosplay from Bizenghast for a while and while this dress was a challenge, I want to try others from the manga eventually. Also, can you believe I got more threats over the fake cake than I ever have over my Jonathan head? Don’t have fake cake kids, it’s bad for your eyes.

Whoops missed yesterday, but I also haven’t had many “builds”. Giorno was the first cosplay that my goal was as clean of work as possible, and considering one of the judges at Anime Magic said my stitching was immaculate, I’d say I succeeded. This was a labor of love that took me a few months because there was easily 20 yards of trim that needed to be hand-stitched down (and the lining).

I don’t usually do super intense makeup for cosplays but I’m really proud of essentially a costest of Yukako from part 4 of Jojo’s. I hadn’t seen anyone do anything with her Cinderella arc and it seemed like a good time. The makeup itself is just eyeshadow and white liquid liner because my actual sfx supply is very meager but I’m really happy with it.

My current WIP is a version of Dinah from Bizenghast, which was one of my favorite comics growing up. I recently dived back in and it’s still really great so I wanted to make one of the many gorgeous designs and the cake dress from the volume 5 cover spoke to me. I had to design the bottom half since only the top exists; swipe through to see plan. I’m hoping to have her done by the end of this year. Please ignore the mess; my workspace is bad when in the middle of crafting haha.
