2026/27 NEW ARTIST | Welcoming Tyler Chang originally from New York City.
Tyler Chang, a multidisciplinary Chinese-American artist, was born and raised in New York City. They began their dance education at LaGuardia High School, additionally training at Broadway Dance Center, Ballet Hispánico, and MOVE|NYC|.
Tyler earned their Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California (USC) Glorya Kaufman School of Dance on an artistic-excellence scholarship with a concentration in performance and a minor in Business Finance. Throughout their time at USC Kaufman, they performed original works by Kyle Abraham, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Saleemah E. Knight, Bret Easterling, Tyce Diorio, and Jennifer Lott as well as restaged works by Christopher Wheeldon, Jiří Kylián, Hope Boykin, and Shahar Binyamini.
Professionally, Tyler has performed in In Search of an Exit, an evening length work by Thomas Ford and Steven Atwater, and in DiscoFoot by Tom Caley and Petter Jacobsson.
In addition to their collegiate studies, Tyler studied at The School at Jacob’s Pillows contemporary program, Springboard Danse Pittsburgh, Orsolina 28, and the Ballets Jazz Montréal summer intensive, where they performed works by Wayne McGregor, Sharon Eyal, Laja Field, Juliano Nunes, Florian Lochner/Alice Klock (FLOCK), and Andonis Foniadakis. They additionally were a 2025 Arnhold summer fellow studying dance education and leadership.
Tyler is thrilled to begin their first season with Visceral Dance Chicago where they look forward to continued growth and exploration as a dance artist and maker.
