Rachel Benzing, a native of Chicago, began her dance training at Copeland Dance Academy with the Checchetti School of Ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern. She established herself as a teacher and choreographer at Copeland Dance Academy and Ambition Dance & Performing Arts where she had the responsibility of teaching and choreographing for the tap programs while also a member of Xtreme Dance Force, a hip-hop and jazz company. She has attended the St. Louis Tap Festival, the Los Angeles Tap Festival, and the Chicago Human Rhythm Project where she won the Summer World Tap Competition, the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive and Six Week Summer Program, Ledges and Bones Summer Workshop which she was awarded a full-ride scholarship, and numerous BODYTRAFFIC workshops and intensives. Currently she is a student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where she is pursuing two bachelor degrees, in Dance and History, under the instruction of Lillian Barbeito, Tekla Kostek, Paige Porter, Jason Myhre, Damon Rago, Holly Johnston, Mark Tomasic, Rosalynde LeBlanc Loo, John Todd, Robbie Cook, and Lisa Gillespie. She has performed in works choreographed by Barak Marshall, Jessica Harper, J.T. Horenstein, Kevin Williamson, Tony Czar, Paige Porter, Denise Leitner, Rosalynde LeBlanc Loo, Jessie Zarrit, and Lillian Berbeito and has also received the College of Communication and Fine Arts Council Scholarship. Apart from her performance and choreographic pursuits, Rachel has also been published in the Dance Program Student Journal, and has served as treasurer on both the History Honors Society, Phi Alpha Theta, and the Classics Honor Society, Eta Sigma Phi. Rachel intends on obtaining her masters degree in Dance and establishing her career as a choreographer with the creation of her own dance company.
