More than 30 years after he got his first real tattoo, of a coiled cobra when he was 16, Mr. Scapini made his mark on the tattoo world.”

Fat Joe opened Jade Dragon on 1980 in the same location this shop operates out of today, making it one of the oldest continually running tattoo shops in Chicago. He was a fixture in Chicago’s tattooing and biker scene for many years. He started in the business at a time when tattoos were an underground craft and the regulation of tattoo parlors was lax. He found that sanitation sells and helped build a reputable establishment. Through this belief Fat Joe invented a disposable plastic tube that has become the industry standard today.
Jade Dragon is still a family business where his wife, son, and daughter, all work at to this day.
Fat Joe passed away at the age of 47, on August 24, 2007, after suffering congestive heart failure and years of battling diabetes.
His legacy lives on today at Jade Dragon Tattoo where we still take pride in the tattoos and piercings we do for the Chicagoland area.
