SHARING MY PERSPECTIVE (PDX)
Portland, Oregon.
A city that proudly calls itself weird.
But weird isn’t always creative.
Sometimes weird is sick.
Sometimes it’s broken.
Sometimes it’s just untreated trauma dressed up as culture.
In my pursuit of finding a healthy house music community in Portland, what I discovered may shock some people—but deep down, they already know it’s true.
This isn’t the scene people expect.
Portland is a city of contradictions.
A city of s*x workers, st*****rs, addicts, misfits—both functional and dysfunctional—trying to coexist under the same banner of “community.”
And the most dangerous transformation of all?
The ones who claim to be healed.
After years of excess—substances, chaos, self-destruction—many now rebrand themselves as spiritual leaders, shamans, sound healers, or energy workers.
They sell enlightenment.
They sell healing.
They sell salvation.
But many of them are still bleeding internally.
You can’t heal others when you haven’t done the work yourself.
You can’t guide people out of darkness when you’re still avoiding your own reflection.
What’s being marketed as spirituality is often just unresolved addiction with better branding.
And the house music scene here?
It’s fractured.
Cliques.
Collectives.
Echo chambers.
Not communities—but groups of nobodies trying to become one big somebody.
Local DJ syndrome.
Imposter syndrome.
Crabs in a barrel—pulling each other down while pretending to lift each other up.
Fake love.
Passive-aggressive support.
A culture contaminated by ego, insecurity, and unspoken resentment.
This isn’t unity.
This isn’t growth.
This isn’t house music culture.
So yeah—this message will upset people.
But if it didn’t, it wouldn’t be true.
Finding love here?
Finding authenticity?
Finding something real?
That’s not a journey—it’s a witch hunt.
Good luck.
