Illinois took a major step to protect live music fans. House Bill 4984, banning speculative ticketing, passed the Senate on May 30. Once signed into law this summer, it will give consumers legal protection against fraudulent ticket vendors.

Thank you to Representative State Rep. Nabeela Syed and State Senator Steve Stadelman for your leadership, and to the General Assembly for passing this bill with unanimous, bipartisan support.

We are proud to be among the organizations that helped advocate: Auditorium Theatre, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Joffrey Ballet, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Ravinia Festival.

✨ Big announcement ✨

The Harris Theater Executive Committee has unanimously appointed Michael McStraw, long-standing Trustee and current Executive Director of Chicago Dance History Project, as Interim President and CEO to succeed Lori Dimun.

Michael McStraw brings a wealth of experience to the interim CEO role. As a Harris Theater trustee for nearly a decade and having previously served as Executive Director of Giordano Dance Chicago, one of the Harris Theater's earliest Resident Companies, Michael is intimately familiar with the Harris Theater’s mission and strategic goals.

“I am honored to lead the Harris Theater during this transition,” said Michael McStraw.

The Harris Theater Board of Trustees will launch a global search for a permanent successor. A period of transition between Dimun and McStraw is underway to ensure solid and careful continuity.

Our Icons and Innovators Gala honoring one of our founders and namesake Joan W. Harris was an unforgettable celebration — exceeding its goal and raising nearly $1.4M to support the Harris Theater’s future and mission.

From a stunning performance curated by The Juilliard School to an elevated dining experience on the Harris Theater Rooftop, the evening was truly inspirational.
