Bittersweet Arts Co.

Bittersweet Arts Co. Bittersweet Arts Co. WHO ARE WE?

- Bittersweet Arts Co.

is a collective of multi-talented artists whose unique ambitions and spirits are brought together through their love of experimentation and creative expression. WHAT DO WE DO?

- We are focusing on nurturing an intimate and developmental artistic environment while pushing the individual and the group toward progressive and experimental themes.
- We are putting on shows and sharing performance art

, theatre, live music, poetry, film, and more.
- We are constantly incorporating alternative mediums and messages into our work to make our content uncomfortable, provocative and fresh.
- We are embracing a radical, sunny consciousness at a moment in pop culture when dark undercurrents are circulating in the minds of the country’s youth.
- We are learning about ourselves and about the world in which we live.
- We are supporting our members through a unique and tribal economy.
- We are continuously creating content.
- We are accepting and encouraging the strange. WHY DO WE DO IT?

- To generate an inclusive, supportive and prolific atmosphere with a strong emphasis on process and synergy.
- To strive to be innovative, imaginative and accessible.
- To fight narrow-mindedness, laziness, shallowness and depreciation.
- To speak out and to resist.
- To champion equality, self-expression and sincerity.
- To speak honestly and with conviction about the things that make us different, with the hopes that offering ourselves in a true way will inspire thought, feeling and action from the audience. COMPANY:

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Last night's event, Scary Stories to Tell in The Park, definitely did not go as planned or expected. The weather was not on our side, although it seemed like the rain was going to spare us, the wind created unsafe conditions on the beach. We were about to cancel when two lovely people offered to open their home for us. Thank you, Jimmy Brereton and Leah Goudy, for hosting such a strange and spooky night in your home!

A huge shoutout to all the company members and artistic collaborators who worked to put on this show (Bo Kinney, Freddy-May AbiSamra, Ted Dayton, Alex Serious Fortune, Kendall Kaminsky, Addison Lewis, Jessica Smoot, Rachael Everson). Thanks to Mary Elizabeth Lumley for capturing video and photos which we'll be able to release soon. Thanks to everyone who shared their own scary stories, and thank you to everyone who came!!

Happy Spoooooooooooookoween!

tell us about yourself:
I make art usually under the Uma Bloo. I focus mostly in music but maintain a practice in acting, writing, and burlesque dancing. I am a pool of performance, jump in.

what's your favorite nature memory?
When I was young my family went to Tobermory, Ontario. The water is so clear I had to google it to make sure I didn't dream it. Its a rocky beach (I prefer it to a sandy beach) and there are a couple shipwrecks you can swim over.

what animal do you connect to?
Dogs, lately. You can tell they don't get why they exist, either.

Get to know Stranger on the River cast member, Alexis Allotta who is playing the Bear! 🐻

tell us about yourself:
My name is Alexis Allotta, I'm a graduate from Columbia College Chicago, a Co-Founder of Bittersweet Arts Co and a Chicago-based actress, model and writer. Recently you may have seen me in the Off-Broadway run of Tony n' Tina's Wedding or in the world premiere of Forsythian Dwellers Club.

what's your favorite memory in nature?
My favorite nature memory that left a mark on me, literally, took place in the mountains of stunning Telluride, Colorado. I went hiking with some locals who knew how to flawlessly navigate trough the rough terrain, steep inclines and sharp rocks. Flat, Florida- born Alexis fell square on her tailbone, naturally. I thought I was going to die! I was scarred! Not sure why it's my favorite memory at all!

what animal do you connect to?
I connect to koala bears. They cuddle with trees all day and eat. They are the coolest.

tell us about yourself:
I’m an actor born and raised all over the wild of rural New England, and the oldest of seven crazy kids. I’ve performed and studied with Classic Stage Company, Shakespeare and Company, Second City Chicago, CalArts Center for New Performance, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sarah Lawrence College and the California Institute of the Arts where I graduated with a BFA in acting last May. Currently I can be found bustling between shooting my first feature film, concocting original work with fellow CalArts/Chicago transplants, and in pre-production for feature comedy You Need to Stop as a co-writer/producer. I am also a proud new company member at Red Tape Theatre. Working on Stranger on the River has been a dream and I’m the luckiest lady to be able to tell this story alongside such awesome artists!

what's your favorite nature memory?
Guess I gotta go with losing track of time catching frogs all summer as a kid. I was obsessed!

what animal do you connect to?
Coyote!

what's your favorite memory in nature?
There is a road on top of the biggest mountain in my home town. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean and every time I visit home I make a pilgrimage to Ridgecrest. To stand on a mountain and overlook the sea is the closest thing to flying.

The nature memory I hold most dear is lying on a bridge over a river in the moonlight in the mountains, stargazing and snuggling and laughing with my sweet brothers and my best good childhood friends in the summertime in California.

The animal I connect to the most is the redwood tree, which is not an animal, but it is alive and it is sturdy and strong and old and wise and it feels like history and it smells like Home. 🌲🍃🌲🍃
