Through eleven months of 2011 Gregory Dowell Photography has brought you 30 galleries containing 436 photos. Those photos represent under 10% of the total I shoot in a year. The photos that make the blog are the best and my favorites. They ranged from flowers to landscapes to architecture. There was once-in-a-lifetime - Thunder Blizzard and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. There were regulars - Air & Water Show and around Chicago. The fifteen photos displayed here are my absolute favorites from the 2011. Five of them I think are exceptional and I have self-nominated of Photo of the Year (POTY). So check out my favorites below and let me know your favorite in the comments. Graceland Cemetery

On Saturday, autumn breathed its last life in Chicago. Temperatures were near 60 (well above the normal), the sky was blue, and the sun was bright. It was the perfect opportunity to capture the last colors of a beautiful autumn. Surprisingly a lot of the trees still have most of their leaves and with that comes the brilliant yellows, reds, and oranges. So I headed up to Graceland Cemetery which is one the best display of trees in the concrete jungle. The conditions were ideal so I was able to capture great photo after great photo. Heading up to Graceland Cemetery in the morning to capture the last remnants of fall colors. I was up there this same weekend two years ago. I've only gotten better since then, so I'm excited to see what I come back with.

If you're a fan of autumn, these two photo galleries are for you. I hope you enjoy looking at the beautiful colors as much as I enjoyed photographing them. Los Angeles

This past week I was in Los Angeles rappelling the Hall of Justice, the former "home" of Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan. Right next door the Michael Jackson manslaughter trial drew around the clock coverage. It was a surreal experience, much like the rest of LA. Chicago is a pretty straightforward city. Los Angeles is anything but straightforward. Most of the photos below are from the historic Theatre District, where twelve former theatres continue to stand though mostly abandoned. There's also shots of Frank O Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall and LA City Hall. Be sure to mouse over the day photos of each building to see a similar night photograph. It was a tough week considering it was sunny with temperatures in the upper 70s all week. Enjoy.

Garfield Park Conservatory

On Saturday I headed to the Garfield Park Conservatory with my parents who were in town visiting for the weekend. There was plenty to see and with perfect lighting I had a field day snapping photographs of what has become my favorite summer subject - flowers. Check out the photos below, I think they include some of the best flower photographs I've taken. Enjoy.
