The museum opened in 2011 and has hosted dozens of free, important exhibitions, featuring work by artists such as Tony Fitzpatrick, Barbara Rossi, Ellen Lanyon, Dawoud Bey, Firelei Báez, and recently Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle. This year marks the 10th edition of our annual Arts Guide and over 43 years of CGN documenting, supporting, and celebrating art in Chicago and beyond.

These guides are more than listings. They’re a living record of artists, spaces, and moments - some that have endured, some that have transformed, and many that continue to shape the cultural landscape year after year.

A pilgrimage-worthy exhibition. Chicago native Mike Rea’s Mature Works at Bertrand Productions transformed three years of studio obsession into a monumental, unapologetic solo show. From vivid, high-gloss sculptures to deeply personal symbolism, Rea’s mastery of craft and fearless storytelling commanded the space, and the viewer.

What began as a family vacation became an unexpected journey through France’s living cultural landscape. From Hockney at the Fondation Louis Vuitton to Othoniel in Avignon and Invader mosaics tucked along quiet streets, art found at every turn — historic, contemporary, monumental, and small.

A reminder that when you travel, the most meaningful encounters often aren’t on a checklist at all.

On October 23, The Arts Club of Chicago hosted a record-breaking gala for Artists in Public Schools, honoring the legendary Rhona Hoffman and raising more funds than ever before to support art education across Chicago.

Executive Director Suzette Bross shared how the organization’s artist residencies bring creativity directly into classrooms — “created with the community, not for it.”

Since its founding, Artists in Public Schools has partnered with 90+ artists, reaching 57,000 students across 61 neighborhoods — empowering young voices and building pride through art.

Rhona Hoffman reminded guests why this work matters: “Art provides a powerful outlet for self-expression and teaches creativity and problem-solving. Art is part of the whole learning process.”
Funds raised will connect even more CPS students with professional artists next year — shaping Chicago’s next generation of creators!
