Rest in Peace you Gentle Soul.
David Storms Denman, age 58, died on December 12th in Chicago Illinois. He was born on April 22nd, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri and moved with his family to Jefferson City in 1964. His parents were John and Susan Denman. He is survived by his two brothers, Thomas Holt and John Stewart Denman; and his sister Amy Elizabeth Denman. He had a nephew, Jack Storms Denman, and two nieces, Celia and Ella Denman. David graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1980 and from Westminster College in Pennsylvania in 1984, with a degree in Theater. David had a wonderful talent for painting and drawing, especially in watercolor and pencil. He had a rare ability for illustrating texture and structure in his watercolors. His sketches and paintings are hung and treasured by all in our extended family.
Theater was his first love. He lived in Chicago for much of his life, intimately involved in every aspect of theater, from set design to writing and producing plays. He founded the National Pastime Theater Compan and Clock Productions , producing several successful plays such as Yuba City and Einstein’s Dreams. Later, he wrote plays for the annual Abbie Hoffman festival in Chicago. He produced several films, including The Ghost of Captain Lowe, and most recently wrote and produced a play called, Six Scary Tales. Over the past several years he supported and served on the board of the Accidental Shakespeare Company.
David was truly a gentle man and an avid reader of history. He was always the first to introduce board games based on historical events with his friends and family. He was known for his generosity towards Chicago theater and National Public Radio. He had a unique sense of humor and brought a new perspective to any conversation.
His funeral will consist of immediate family only and will take place in Wilmette, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, condolences may by expressed towards the Accidental Shakespeare Company in Chicago. Their website is accidentalshakespeare.org A memorial will be scheduled later this spring or summer when family and friends can gather.
