The Logan Theatre

The Logan Theatre Your neighborhood movie theatre, bar, and lounge! The Logan Theatre opened in 1915 as the Paramount Theatre, a single-screen cinema.
(4050)

In 1922, it was taken over by the Vaselopolis family, as several waves of new ethnic groups reshaped Logan Square as their home, the Logan Theatre remained a family-owned business committed to serving the diverse families of the community. Chris Vaselopolis, the previous owner, was born in the Theatre building and dedicated his life to keeping his family's legacy alive through the Theatre's lighte

d screens. In the 1960s, when Milwaukee Avenue underwent heavy construction to build the CTA Blue Line station, the resilient Logan Theatre kept its doors open for business. Its last round of renovations occurred in the 1990s, and the 2006 film Stranger than Fiction starring Will Ferrell used the Logan Theatre as a shooting location. For nearly a century, the Logan Theatre has been a family institution with a deep tradition of neighborhood entertainment at an unbeatable price – a legacy the new Logan Theatre will continue. Our renovations revealed stunning details of the Theatre's original design and architecture that were obscured under decades of plaster. When you visit us, you’ll marvel at the fully restored stained glass arch over the Theatre's entrance, refurbished marble walls, and a decorative relief panel dating back to the Theatre's elegant 1915 interior. We are excited to share with you our comfortable new seating, enhanced DOLBY sound system, new screens, Christie digital projectors, and 3D capabilities. Our box office, concession area, and lobby have been expanded and remodeled with Art Deco details reminiscent of the original décor. We also invite guests to experience our bar and lounge, open late and serving a full range of drinks. Please no outside food or drinks.

This weekend — Pupi Avati finds horror in broad daylight.

Long elusive to American audiences, the Italian horror masterpiece THE HOUSE WITH LAUGHING WINDOWS plays in Giallo Gelato: Mondo Giallo this Sunday — exactly one week after the film’s 50th anniversary.

Sunday’s screening is presented with the support of Oppenheimer Gallery, whose representatives will join us before the film. The partnership could hardly be more fitting. At the center of The House with Laughing Windows is an art restorer charged with uncovering and preserving a damaged fresco, only to discover that the history concealed beneath its surface is considerably more disturbing than expected.

Before the screening, Oppenheimer Gallery will bring the real-world art of restoration into the Logan’s lounge, sharing examples of previous restoration work, materials from its collection, and information about preserving and caring for works of art.

GIALLO GELATO 2026: MONDO GIALLO begins tonight and continues through the weekend!

Fri, Aug 21 — Who Can Kill a Child? — 1976, Spain
Sat, Aug 22 — Alice, Sweet Alice — 1976, U.S.
Sun, Aug 23 — The House With Laughing Windows — 1976, Italy

All screenings begin at 11 pm at The Logan and are introduced by Stephanie Sack. Tickets for each are $12 and available in the bio now!

Giallo Gelato opens Friday with WHO CAN KILL A CHILD?

50 years after its first Chicago appearance, Narciso Ibáñez Serrador’s blistering Spanish nightmare returns to screen in its complete director’s version, presented by Stephanie Sack.

Released in 1976 during a transformative moment in Spanish history, the film arrived as the country emerged from nearly four decades of Francisco Franco’s dictatorship and began its uncertain transition toward democracy. Serrador’s second and final theatrical feature belongs to a remarkable period in Spanish genre filmmaking in which directors were testing cultural, political, and artistic boundaries with increasing freedom.

This film that initially resembles a sun-drenched holiday gradually reveals itself as something far more disturbing. It remains one of the most morally provocative horror films of its era — shocking, bleak, and impossible to shake.

“Who Can Kill a Child?” has only two documented previous theatrical engagements in Chicago. First as part of the Chicago International Film Festival 1976 at the Uptown Theatre (the American release version, “Island of the Damned”), and thirty-five years later, resurfacing at the Gene Siskel Film Center in 2011 in the Festival of New Spanish Cinema.

Now we’ll celebrate its half-century status and Logan debut with cocktails and gelato. Advance tickets are in the bio!
