Venus, Jupiter and Mercury headline a spectacular month of planetary viewing.

🌌 A Celestial Spectacle You Don’t Want to Miss! 🌌

The phrase “once in a blue moon” literally comes to life tonight, May 30th! 🌕✨ We are being treated to an incredibly rare double-feature in the night sky: an official Blue Moon paired with a stunning 5-planet alignment.

Here is everything you need to know about tonight’s event:

🔹 The Blue Moon: Because the moon’s 29.5-day cycle doesn't perfectly match our calendar, we occasionally get two full moons in a single month. After the "Flower Moon" on May 1st, tonight’s full moon is our second—making it a true Blue Moon!
(Fun fact: Despite the name, it won’t actually look blue! If you catch it rising near the horizon just after sunset, it will likely have a beautiful golden-orange glow thanks to an atmospheric effect called Rayleigh scattering).

🔹 The Planetary Parade: As if the moon wasn't enough, skywatchers will also be able to spot Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and Mars stretching across the evening and early morning sky. While they won't all appear at the exact same second, this rare lineup will be visible within hours of each other from dusk until dawn.

🔭 How to watch:
Step outside shortly after sunset tonight and look toward a clear southeastern horizon to catch that large golden-orange moon rising into the dusk sky.

Events like this are genuinely rare—in fact, our next monthly Blue Moon won’t happen again until December 31, 2028! So grab a warm drink, step outside, and look up.

Will you be stargazing tonight? Let us know where you are watching from in the comments! 👇

🔵 A Rare Blue Moon Will Light Up the Sky on May 31, 2026 🌕

A rare Blue Moon is coming at the end of May — and skywatchers around the world are in for a beautiful lunar event. 🌌

🕗 Peak Full Moon: 08:45 UTC

This will be the second Full Moon of the month, which is why it’s called a “Blue Moon.” The first Full Moon appeared on May 1, making the May 31 Moon officially a rare calendar Blue Moon.

But there’s another twist — this will also be the smallest Full Moon of 2026. 🌕✨
The Moon will be near apogee, the farthest point from Earth in its orbit, causing it to appear slightly smaller and dimmer than usual. This type of Full Moon is often called a “Micromoon.”

Despite the name, the Moon will not actually turn blue. Still, it will create a stunning sight in the night sky and offer an amazing opportunity for moon photography. 📸

Rare lunar events like this are a reminder that our sky is constantly changing — and always worth looking up at. 🌠

BREAKING : SKYWATCHER ALERT , look up TONIGHT!

The northern lights could soon appear much farther south than usual across parts of the United States.

According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, a fast-moving stream of solar wind flowing from a massive coronal hole in the Sun’s atmosphere may trigger geomagnetic storm conditions through the weekend.

If conditions align, auroras could become visible across parts of the northern US, including Alaska, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Maine.

The best viewing window is expected between about 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. EDT.

The incoming solar wind is expected to generate a G1 geomagnetic storm — considered a minor storm on NOAA’s space weather scale. But even relatively weak geomagnetic storms can occasionally push auroras farther south than normal.

Auroras happen when charged particles from the Sun slam into Earth’s magnetic field and interact with gases in the upper atmosphere, producing glowing curtains of green, purple, and red light.

This event is being driven by a coronal hole, a darker region of the Sun where magnetic field lines open outward into space, allowing high-speed solar wind to escape more easily.

Scientists caution that auroras are notoriously unpredictable. Visibility depends on cloud cover, local light pollution, atmospheric conditions, and how strongly Earth’s magnetic field reacts to the incoming solar wind.

Even if the lights aren’t easily visible to the naked eye, smartphone cameras can sometimes capture faint auroras surprisingly well.

For the best chance of seeing them, experts recommend heading somewhere dark with a clear northern horizon shortly after sunset.
