Ethan Foss Design

Ethan Foss Design Shaping the emotional landscape of theater through immersive sound design. My name is Ethan M. Foss & I reside in Rochester, MN.

I turn narratives into sonic worlds, from period-accurate curation to evocative soundscapes to ensure the sound feels as intentional and essential as the acting itself. I have a true passion for audio technology. I have been working in the audio industry for over 15 Years. I started in 2001 working at a local church as the Audio & Visual Technician, then in 2004 I started working with local theatr

e companies as the Sound Board Operator & in 2011 I started working as a Sound Designer for a local theatre. In 2007, I started at Mesa Community College in the Music Business, Sound Design, & Audio Production Technology degree programs. I graduated in December 2013 with a Certificate of Completion in Audio Production Technologies, interning at The Black Box Theatre. I am still pursuing the Certificate in Music Business & Sound Design as well as the Associate of Applied Science in all degrees. While at college I learned about Sound Design, Sound Recording, Live Sound Reinforcement & Audio Editing. While not currently taking classes at school, I am taking video courses on Lynda.com in the subject area of audio & music. I am interested in audio production, sound design, audio engineering & audio recording as it will allow me to combine my passion & love of sound & music. It will also allow me to utilize both my educational background & hands on training. Though I have many years experience in the theater & performing arts industry, I pride myself in being versatile & being able to fill multiple roles in the entertainment industry. I find that working with audio is more of a hobby than a job. I thoroughly enjoy mixing audio, designing effects, recording artists & editing tracks. For me, keeping the enjoyment & love for this work is what makes it into a career path. My motto is "The greatest career, is that which was a hobby" - (Unknown)

"Adapting a sound design to a new space is like tailoring a suit—it has to fit perfectly. 🎧 I’ve been busy adapting the design for Baskerville to fit our stage at the Peterborough Players, collaborating with our director to ensure every cue supports their vision and our theater’s unique acoustics. From fine-tuning the soundscapes to curating the pre-show and intermission music, it’s these creative layers that turn a script into a full sensory experience.
I’m thrilled that Baskerville has officially opened! If you want to hear the final result, come see the show:

It begins tonight! We kick off our 2026 Summer Season with the incredible play, Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Come and experience this incredible cast of 5 and their many, many quick changes!

Final class project for Sound Design 2, even though I am working on 2 other videos now in class. This one is the required class final video.

We got the cinematic trailer for 2 Legacy of the Void with no audio to it. I added all sound effects with sounds from Community College library or they were recorded by me and edited.

No music or voices were added at this point, but am hoping to get my brother to do the voice over for me so I can add that into it later.

Screenshots are what I get to look at for hours on end while deciding how to make it sound.
