Over the years, you might have heard us talk about Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (ChicagoCAC), an organization that unites public, private and community partners to ensure the safety, health and well-being of abused children and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Through its Chicago Prevention Alliance initiative, ChicagoCAC convenes more than 20 organizations, including Imagination Theater, that provide sexual harm prevention education across the city. During our years of partnership, we have seen how deeply ChicagoCAC’s work connects with the work we do to help keep children safe from sexual abuse and other forms of harm.

That brings us to some exciting news: Imagination Theater and ChicagoCAC have mutually decided to build on our many years of collaboration by entering into a merger. Beginning July 1, Imagination Theater will become a part of ChicagoCAC rather than continuing as its own organization.

This is great news for many reasons. All of Imagination Theater’s current in-school programs will continue. We will now have the benefit of additional resources and personnel, which means we’ll be much better positioned to pursue new ideas, including new programs. (In fact, we’re working on a new program right now!) I will still be Artistic Director, and all current ensemble members have been offered contracts with ChicagoCAC.

On a personal note, this change will reunite us with our longtime Executive Director, Steve Leaver, who left Imagination Theater last August to become Director of Education, Outreach, and Prevention at ChicagoCAC. We have remained in close touch with Steve for these past several months and couldn’t be more thrilled to join his team at ChicagoCAC.

We know change can be difficult. But this as a big step forward for Imagination Theater and the work you’ve helped us do for so long. You’ll be hearing more soon from ChicagoCAC directly, and we’re sure you’ll see why we couldn’t imagine a better organization to become part of.

Thank you for supporting Imagination Theater’s work as we join forces with ChicagoCAC. We appreciate all of our donors, customers, and other supporters, today and always!

✨New Ensemble Member Spotlight: Olivia ✨

Hi, Olivia. Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hi! I’m Olivia Reamer, and I am so excited to be joining IT. I’m an Elmhurst native and recent graduate of Elmhurst University, where I studied Spanish, history, and theater. I work as a Spanish teacher through local park districts and as a youth theater director.

What drew you to Imagination Theater?

I love that IT strives to serve diverse communities in Chicago and is trying to expand its reach toward Spanish speakers in the area. I was drawn to IT because of this new focus on implementing Spanish into their programs. It makes me excited to combine my passions for theater and Spanish, and I am looking forward to helping spread important ideas to a broader audience by including more Spanish in my work with IT.

Do you have any memories that stand out from your first few shows with us?

One of my first shows with IT was a college tour at John Carroll University in Ohio, where we performed an important show about navigating the new relationships and sexual challenges of college. I was very impressed by how seriously the new freshmen took the show and how receptive and open they were to discussing some uncomfortable topics. I loved how many of the guys in the audience were not afraid to call out inappropriate behavior and advocate for respecting others. It was a very refreshing experience!

What else are you up to?

I sometimes perform outside of IT in local shows. I work as a Spanish teacher for 3-year-olds through adults with Language in Action in addition to directing middle school and high school theater often at Timothy Christian Schools in Elmhurst, where I have mentored high school student directors as they learn about directing while working on short plays with middle school actors.

Trust Imagination Theater to help your school fulfill Erin’s Law and keep your students safe.

Now that you and your students are back from winter break, why not take a moment to make sure you’re compliant with Erin’s Law for this school year?

Since 2013, all public schools in Illinois have been required to provide annual child sexual abuse prevention education for students in prekindergarten through 12th grade.

Along with an assembly performance of the interactive play No Secrets, CSAPP includes classroom follow-up; guidance for teachers, other school staff, and parents; and a staffed “safe room” at your school where students can privately ask questions, disclose abuse, and be connected with resources as needed.

Don’t leave your students’ safety up to chance. To bring CSAPP to your school this semester, contact Cee Scallen, CSAPP coordinator, at (773) 492-1966 x 2 or [email protected].

✨New Ensemble Member Spotlight✨

Hi, PJ. Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a born and raised Chicagoan. I went to school for theatre and now do improv and stand-up. I also work in mental health with a background in fitness as well.

What drew you to Imagination Theater?

What drew me to Imagination Theater is the fact that the company believes theatre can start a conversation. I feel like people are not aware of the educational purposes that theatre has, and I want to be a part of a company that helps bring that to the forefront, especially for children.

Do you have any memories that stand out from your first few shows with us?

My first show. I think I was so nervous about performing well when the question I realized was important was, “Did they gain something from this?” I was genuinely shocked to see how many kids were engaging in the show.

What else are you up to?

Right now I am a Bob Curry scholar at Second City (BC 10!), which concludes in February with a monthlong show. I am also currently doing stand-up around the city as well as performing improv with other teams. I also help with my friend’s mental health organization, The CornerStore Chicago.

✨New Ensemble Member Spotlight✨

Hi. Who are you?

Hi!! My name is Gabriela Molina, but everyone calls me Gaby. I am a recent graduate from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in acting! I am from Panama City, Panama, currently located in Chicago!! :)

What excites you about working with Imagination Theater?

The idea of using theatre as a way of educating and implementing values has always been super important to me, and Imagination Theater does just that! It is so exciting to be in this company!

Any interesting stories from shows?

While I still haven’t done any shows yet [that’ll change this week!], the rehearsals have been so welcoming and funny and witty! It’s being a kid all over again, and it’s amazing.

What else is going on in your world?

For now, I am auditioning for everything that comes my way and looking to always collaborate! You can follow me on insta , and if you want to collaborate in a project, you can reach out to me through my socials or my email!
