Chicago Art Department (CAD) is an artist-run nonprofit with a mission to provide space and resources for civically-minded artists to grow their practice while questioning the city we live in.

Contratiempo is a literary organization that highlights the cultural contributions of the Spanish-speaking diaspora. Our bilingual programs showcase the art, literature and journalism of immigrant communities and also facilitates exchanges between poets and writers in the USA, Latin America and Spain. We highlight vital immigrant stories and serve a second-generation audience with a bilingual, bicultural identity. Our all-immigrant team also leads the organization, creating, curating and executing all programs presented on the page, our digital publication, the airwaves and the stage. Ross Stanton Jordan is a curator interested in the confluence of politics, history, and visual culture. He is the curator at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Chicago’s dynamic monument to democracy. At the museum and independently, Jordan has produced dozens of exhibitions and over one hundred public programs that connect the social justice issues of the past to the present-day demands for social equity via collaborations with artists, scholars, and community-based organizations.

Hailing from the West Texas town of El Paso, brothers Adrian and Sebastian Aguirre have called Chicago their home for over 15 years. Growing up on the Mexican-American border, the privilege of indulging in the month long mayhem that is the World Cup every four years between the two cultures decidedly left its mark on them…and only got worse.

Now with a combined 30 years experience in the restaurant and beer industries, they brew locally in Pilsen/Heart of Chicago. After years of experimenting and perfecting their craft, they are premiering their seasonal, classic style beers to the public in 2021.

Alderman Byron Sigcho-López has represented the community since 2019. Currently, he has been re-elected for the term 2023 – 2027 due to the great community support he’s had and was sworn in to serve on the Chicago City Council as Alderman for the 25th Ward. The 25th Ward includes the communities of Pilsen, Little Village, and University Village.

Alderman Sigcho-Lopez arrived, 23 years ago, as an immigrant to the United States. Where he found care among teachers, coaches, and community members. All of whom were instrumental in teaching him English, always providing him with shelter, guidance, and gave him a path to higher education.
