Welp, I beat it. Even did the optional battles. I saw there is one more I haven’t done with the twins, but thats only for NG+ so im kinda hesitant to do it lmao. I went the full Royal route, I got to the last boss on my switch like 2 years ago or so. And even got to the last real palace in the original one on PS4 way back in 2019. But either stuff happened, or I felt like I wasn’t in the right headspace to really enjoy it. The lather reason was mostly because i was really struggling at the homeless shelter and what the last boss offered is something I would’ve taken if I was in Ren’s shoes.
[ROYAL SPOILERS IN NEXT PARAGRAPH]
I was just so numb and I just wanted to feel loved again. I thought that if I was in that universe, that this would mean never going through homelessness. And my mom continues to live and show me unconditional love. And honestly I didn’t want to play a game that made you make a choice if you wanted to live in a new reality that was free of hardships or a life that was full of them. And I remember just staring at the screen, right before the last boss. And I couldn’t find any joy in completing it. However I feel like with my own therapy irl funny enough, that I’m able to accept the hardships in my own personal life. I won’t say it doesn’t hurt when watching the story wrap up. Because the pain that was portrayed in those final moments felt relatable to a point of me crying. Hell I’m still crying while writing this.
[END OF SPOILERS]
Overall, the game has a beautiful story, and I’m really happy that I was able to see it through the end. I’m not sure how the story is in the original game, but Royal knocked it right out of the park with the epilogue. I can’t wait to play the new remake of Persona 4 when it comes out. However I don’t really have funds to be spending on games atm. So i’ll be playing through P4G on my PC instead. (Thats another game I haven’t beaten, but mostly because I thought it was a little too bright and goofy right after I had beaten Persona 3)
My only complaint is that if you utilize the confidant abilities right, even on the hardest difficulty the game becomes a cakewalk. I know a lot of it is over grinding. But the auto kill mechanic kinda makes everything so easy and painless to level. However I know that Merciless isn’t really the hardest if you know your type pairings since everything gets double damage against weaknesses.
Overall tho? 8.5/10 on the Roar meter. Felt more like a puzzle/time management game compared to other JRPGs. But the story is very nice and the last month you are there, everything falling into place feels amazing. Also Makoto my beloved, went the whole play through only dating her. Love her to death istg. Anyway back to drawing and looking for games to play now that im done with this story.
