ONE WEEK AWAY 😏 do you have your tickets for Mehendi in Bloom?

Along with the sights of the Pigments artist garden and the magic of henna artists, your ears will be blessed with an incredible line up of musicians next week on Saturday! 🎶

We'll kick it off with a variety showcase, mehfil style, highlighting some of our amazing community members. 😎

Next, the brilliant Ronnie Malley and Anjan Chakravarty will sweep us away from Chicago with A Conversation Between Traditions featuring oud and mridangam. In this duet, the artists will transport us across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia removing borders all way from the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. 🌏

Finally, you know her and you love her, we'll end the afternoon dancing to the brilliant beats of dj nanoos!! Her work pays homage to the rich traditions of the Levant, recontextualizing them through Techno, Ghettotech, Juke, and beyond. You won't wanna miss this! 💃

🌸MEHENDI IN BLOOM🌸

Announcing our henna and jagua artist lineup for August 22nd!!
Garfield Park Conservatory and Gardens is growing henna plants as part of their Summer Flower Show, Pigments. This year’s show will focus on flowers and plants that can be harvested for natural pigments, paints, and dyes.

We are honored to welcome you alongside our artists to share the beautiful tradition of adorning our hands with henna and jagua.

Jagua comes from the fruit of the Genipa americana tree. The tree is native to the rainforests of Central and South America. Indigenous communities have used Jagua for generations. Since then, jagua has also been used for adorning the hands, feet, and other parts of the body, often through a gel form. The dark blue-black dye is created from the fruit.

Henna is made from crushed up leaves of the Lawsonia inermis plant, which grows in North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. The leaves are turned into a paste. Henna has a long history of being used for weddings, festivals, and other celebrations, where intricate patterns are applied on hands, feet and more.

Come get your hands adorned between 12pm and 4pm at the event with any of our incredible artists. Please bring cash or any digital form of payments (zelle, card, etc) for the henna and dosa stand that will also be present!
We can’t wait to see you! Stay tuned for our artist lineup coming soon!!
