I promised her Mommy I would not show all her face...but this little Angel insisted on helping me pick out The Roses for the bouquet for our next recipient.

Her Mommy kept rushing her and she kept telling her to wait...she's only 2 but her vocabulary is vast...she kept walking around saying "Nope dat ugly.!"

When she was done walking and looking she selected these...said "Here dis pretty!" Handed them to me and said bye bye and off she went.

Wait until you see in whose bouquet this went and the surprise on their face when they receive them!

My. Elsie Hernandez saying thanks for Give Them Their Flowers

Meet Ms. Elsie Hernandez.

She is the curator of the Haitian American Museum in Chicago and the very first person chosen from the first set of nominations we received.

We showed up at the museum with the help of the museum's Executive Director, Carlos Bossard, we were able to sneak up and surprise Ms. Elsie with a dozen long stemmed roses and a Certificate of Recognition.

As I visited my parents graves to place flowers and balloons in honor of Mother's Day 2022...

I began to tell my Mother what a tremendous impact she had on, not only my life, but also the Nursing and Caribbean community.

As I stood there thanking her for ALWAYS being their for her children, grand children and great grandchildren, all the student nurses she mentored and the countless members of the Caribbean community she and Dad have helped, financially, emotionally and spiritually it dawned on me that I should have "Given Her Her Flowers" while she could smell them and hear these words as I uttered them.

Thus, the campaign to "GIVE THEM THEIR FLOWERS" was set into motion June 2022.

I texted my Board of Directors and explained my idea...and everyone was onboard...even offering suggestions. While I was happy for their excitement and pleased for their support, I told them the vision was to have community members at large to choose a recipient, so we would no be accused of being biased, and to have the final say so.

I put out a call for nominations via Facebook and the response was way beyond expectations.

With the help of friends and family we were able to surprise a few of our recipients some of whom were rendered speechless for a few seconds.

Stay tuned to to find who was chosen our 1st recipient!!!

Give people their flowers while they are still alive, while they can still smell them.

We want you to ask yourself, "Are you honoring your loved ones or others in your community, now while they are living?

Too often we stand over coffins speaking on how impactful the deceased was to their friends, family and community and we never took the time to tell them while they were alive.

The Caribbean Association of Midwest America (CAMA) invites you to join us in honoring members of Chicago's Caribbean community.

Nominate someone for their contribution to making the lives of those around them, and the City of Chicago, a better place because if their commitment to BE OF SERVICE to others.

LET'S CELEBRATE THEM...GIVE THEM THEIR FLOWERS.
