Meet the scientists! Aoife McDonald-Bowyer is a final year PhD student at UCL’s Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering department, working in the Surgical Robot Vision group. She has an BSc in Physics from Imperial College London and an MSc in Medical Physics from UCL, where her research was on the development of intelligent prosthetics. Currently, she works on developing soft robotic devices to be used in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery. These small compliant robots are designed to assist surgeons with difficult tasks such as intraoperative imaging and organ manipulation during complex surgeries. The aim of her research is to use robots to reduce the demand of these surgeries on surgeons and improve patient outcomes. Learn more about Aoife’s work at tonight’s show!

Meet the scientists! Viktor Schmuck is a postdoctoral research associate at King’s College London’s Engineering Department, working in the Social AI & Robotics (SAIR) Laboratory. He completed his PhD in the same laboratory, where his research focused on human-robot interaction, machine learning within the scope of human and group behaviour understanding, and socially aware navigation of robots. Currently, he works on socially aware robotic applications focused on Human-Robot Interaction, especially how robots can express themselves via non-verbal behaviour and how co-working with them could be made more seamless. Introducing the comedians for tomorrow night’s show! Erika Ehler is a London-based comic known for her razor-sharp, dark, and visceral writing paired with precise delivery. In 2019, she was crowned winner of the Chortle Student Comedy Award, was the recipient of the Mike Craig Comedy Award, and the Hot Water Roast Battle Champion. She has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, Latitude Festival, and the Toronto Sketch Festival. Erika has written for the fourth series of Comedy Central’s Roast Battle and was recently featured on Comedy Central Live. Introducing the comedians for tomorrow night’s show! Robert Gilbert is a British-American actor and comedian. You’ve seen him on TV in Killing Eve, Big Boys, and the Windsors, as well as on stages all across the US and UK. He can be seen MCing at Milkdrop Comedy, Poodle Club, Soho Comedy Factory & Camden Comedy Factory. Robert has recently been awarded the Max Turner Audience Choice Award and was a 2 Northdown New Act Competition semi-finalist.
