My love affair with creating began as a child spending every afternoon in my parent's floral and antique shop.

As the only daughter of artistic parents with few limitations, my eyes were always able to see the beauty and potential in even the strangest things. On one trip to an auction with my parents, we came home with a rickshaw, a wicker coffin, a king’s sword and scepter, and a laboratory skeleton. Many days like that one fueled my sense of imagination and eccentricity. Over time, my hands and mind have experimented with many forms of creativity that allow me to bring a feeling or an image to life through art that can be shared everyday with everyone around me. Having published multiple books with more on the horizon, the journey to combine words and images to master a “novel-in-poems” never ceases. Drawing from my past as a fine art fair jeweler, the desire to collaborate with other visual artists, photographers, and crafters is a form of hypnosis and it has me under its spell. At this juncture of my life finding my own extraordinary side has been a journey and my stories are screaming to be told. It is with great hope that you may find a piece of my work that will inspire you to be who you are.

Can you exist in extraordinary chaos?

"Unsettling the Table"

My story has played out quite like the chaos of thunder
Taking handfuls of silverware and throwing them into the car engine
Just to turn it on while it rattled and clanked viciously
Inside is the utter accustomed chaos, but from outside lulls
Rhythmic metallic drum beats that echo the storm rain
We fool ourselves into thinking it is nothing but music
Until the steam starts to hiss and the flatware burns chestnut
This machine was not designed to exist in extraordinary chaos
But it seems that I was...

This homage spoken word poetry piece was done fully improved last night in honor of the recently released new album by entitled 'Apocalypse Pending'

I had the lovely distinction of having an art-centric conversation with these members of the dark aesthetic tribe: and and aka James Scott

When I heard the first released track, I contacted lovely Shauna and said "now" because the song hit me like a bag of bricks and iron rods...how poetically Industrial.

Actually, little known fact (not really), I hate all this sub-sub-genre stuff happening. When I am having a conversation with an artist, trust me, the magazine piece I write will never say "shoegaze, goth, darkwave, post-industrial" because seriously, I wasn't told I was GOTH until I was 19. I don't care if you call this album.

We had no names back then, just descriptors "new wave" or "industrual" or "house music" because honestly no one cared and most of those genre names were just being born. Punks, skaters, goths, stoner-kids, artists, LGBTQ, dark poets, weirdos, musicians, future psychopaths, outcasts...we ALL hung out together.

Seriously, the best time to experience first-hand music invention was in Chicago IL in the 80's and 90's. (For me it starting with buying 'Mind the Perpetual In*******se' by at 13 at ).

Search YouTube (follow me there please @ kayteethrun) and you'll find hundreds of videos of younger generations dreaming of being alive back then. Analog to Digital to BETTER Digital to wtf AI Robot Overlords?

We got to experience the world before THIS and that is what 'Apocalypse Pending' is about. THIS is not supposed to be the world. We know. We lived it. And you're all correct, it was the best time.

Glass Half Full Goth®

My love affair with creation began long before I understood what art was. As the only daughter of artistic parents, I spent my childhood surrounded by flowers, antiques, curiosities, and the unexpected treasures that filled my family's shop. Beauty was never limited to what was conventional. It could be found in forgotten objects, strange collections, faded photographs, weathered books, and stories waiting to be discovered.

One afternoon, my parents returned from an auction with a rickshaw, a wicker coffin, a king's sword and scepter, and a laboratory skeleton. It seemed perfectly normal at the time. Looking back, those moments shaped the lens through which I still view the world. Places where imagination, mystery, beauty, and eccentricity comfortably coexist.

Over the years, my creative life has taken many forms. Poet. Author. Spoken word performer. Music journalist. Publisher. Artist. Each discipline became another way of exploring the same questions that have always fascinated me: who we are, what shapes us, what we leave behind, and why certain stories refuse to let us go.

Unafraid of darkness, I am drawn to the places where beauty, memory, identity, and mystery intersect. My work explores the tension between what is hidden and what is revealed, often finding inspiration in the romantic, the macabre, the overlooked, and the deeply human.

As a journalist and curator of conversations, I am less interested in documenting creative work than in exploring the forces that shape it. While a new album, book, exhibition, or performance may provide the point of entry, it is rarely the destination. The conversations I create move beyond promotion and into the experiences, philosophies, obsessions, and questions that drive the creative life itself.

Public News Statement

Following an intensive search after his father, Bill McGinley, disappeared during a routine bicycle ride in Louisville, Colorado, industrial nu metal musician Nathan James announced the heartbreaking news that his father had been found deceased.

Nathan James, who described his father as his "best friend," publicly thanked the community for its support while asking for time to grieve.

The story received national news media coverage in addition to the extensive reporting by local Colorado news outlets.

Authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.

NATHAN JAMES father went missing this morning on a very normal bike ride. He is in excellent health, so this is highly unusual and serious.

If you have information that could help locate him, contact 911 immediately or the investigating agency, the Louisville Police Department, at (303) 666-8634

Then, message NATHAN JAMES ANY INFORMATION you have. I am counting on you Colorado!

Nathan is an incredibly dear kind human and fantastic nu metal musician. Help get his father Bill home safe!

My love affair with creating began spending every afternoon in my parent’s floral and antique shop. The only daughter of dueling artistic parents, a father who was a floral and aesthetic designer and a mother who was an English professor.

I grew up in a massive Victorian home with few limitations, my eyes were always able to see the beauty and potential in even the strangest things. My parent’s opulence was arrogance and I was trained to be a performer, any kind, as long as it was on a stage.

One day on a trip to an auction, we came home with a rickshaw, a wicker coffin, a king’s sword and scepter, and a laboratory skeleton.

We were odd. We were wealthy, until we were penniless and at 18, an untrained princess began navigating life in survival mode.

Over time, my hands and mind have experimented with many forms of creativity that allow me to bring a feeling or an image to life through art that can be shared everyday with everyone around me. Having published multiple books and several albums, with more on the horizon, the journey to combine words and images to master a “novel-in-poems” and emotive spoken word poetry performances never ceases.

Also, the desire to collaborate with brilliant visual artists, photographers, studio musicians, peer poets, and fine crafters is a form of hypnosis and it has me under its spell.
