In the surreal world of Phoeba's Opera, humans and bugs alike revere Phoeba, a goddess of creation. She wishes for a world full of beauty and trees. But while some pray for and welcome her gifts, others scorn them, like the voyeuristic hermit. A devout man, a butler to a couple of spiders, seeks to impress the goddess by murdering those he deems "unclean."

Equal parts emotionally heightened and absurdly comedic, this one act, sung-through musical deals with themes of religious fanaticism, environmental disaster, and the dangers of isolation.

***Auditions for our next project! A first for BITN!***

We are currently accepting submissions for a developmental reading of Phoeba's Opera; a one act musical with music and lyrics by Taylor Layne. This reading will be directed by Artistic Director Garrett Michael McCann.

Synopsis: In the surreal world of Phoeba's Opera, humans and bugs alike revere Phoeba, a goddess of creation. She wishes for a world full of beauty and trees. But while some pray for and welcome her gifts, others scorn them, like the voyeuristic hermit. A devout man, a butler to a couple of spiders, seeks to impress the goddess by murdering those he deems "unclean."

This one act, sung-through musical deals with themes of religious fanaticism, environmental disaster, and the dangers of isolation.

Content Warnings: Violence, including religiously motivated violence, voyeurism, death, and grief.

Schedule: Rehearsals will be held at our rehearsal studio at 4554 N Broadway Ave, Unit 328 from August 10th - August 20st (based on actor availability).

There will be two public performances. August 21st & August 22nd at 7:30pm.

There is a $50 stipend available for this project.

To audition, please fill out the form at the link in our bio to submit your self tape. lease submit a 1-2 min video of you singing.

Participants will be selected from their self tapes. There will be no callbacks for this project.
