Join The Understudy and Kokandy Productions for the latest installment of our BOOK CLUB series! 📚☕️
Because you know we’ve always depended on the kindness of bookstores…
Summer is here—the air thick with music, perfume and sweltering heat. It’s Tennessee Williams weather! Book Club is back, storming into town like a long lost sister you thought you’d never see. We’re tickled to tackle A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, Williams’ masterful, Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of Blanche, Stella, Stanley and all their New Orleans friends. Inspired by what is widely considered one of the best plays of the 20th century, we’ll use music to celebrate sisterhood, southern hospitality and standing in the middle of the street to scream your lover’s name. It’ll have you hollerin’ “Book Club! Boooook Club!!!”
Monday, July 13 @ 7:30PM
Kokandy Book Club is an intimate salon series celebrating theatre, music and community. Each meeting will focus on a well known play—investigating the plot, themes and relevant tangents through a mix of musical theatre and pop/rock performance. Have a sit, have a sip and honor the ritual of talking about good plays and having a good ole fashion jam session.
🎭 Doors open at 7 PM for a 7:30 PM performance.
☕️ The Understudy Cafe will be open for refreshments.
🎟️ Space is limited, and this event usually sells out! Get your tickets now to reserve your spot. Tickets available on Eventbrite and the Understudy website. 🎟️
📚 PS… Book Club is NOT a reading of the book or play. It is a cabaret-style set list of songs inspired by the original text, interspersed with commentary, fun facts, excerpts from the script and other thematically-relevant material. The runtime is usually 75-90 minutes. It’s fun. Trust. 😘
