🫶🏽We are hosting Lucky Jefferson to celebrate previously incarcerated and justice-impacted individuals through its inaugural art exhibition, “Beyond the Frame: Justice-Impacted Photography”!

Works produced from Lucky Jefferson’s four workshop sessions in May will be showcased, allowing the broader community to witness and appreciate the talent and perspectives of this cohort of participants. Join us in celebrating their unique visions and stories.

explores what it means to live beyond judgment, fallacies, and our past. Allowing us to live beyond the literal and metaphorical confines that have previously defined us. Each photo delves into themes of self-identity and self-preservation through photography. Art is a tool for expression and a necessary pathway to freedom.

This free exhibit will be open from July 13 to September 1, 2024, in BUDDY, 1st Floor South, at the Chicago Cultural Center.

*The opening reception will take place on Saturday, July 13 from 4-8PM.*

📖One of our fav publishers just out a book of drawings BY KAREEM DAVIS + RICHARD WILLIS, titled Towers of Steel, Concrete, & Glass. 🎤And we’re having a book release discussion.

📍This Saturday 2-4pm
📍Buddy inside Chicago Cultural Center
📍78 E Washington ST

🎙️Speakers: Kareem Davis, Richard Willis, Faheem Majeed of the Floating Museum & Robyn Jablonski of the Project Onward

👌There will be an ASL interpreter and service dogs are welcome!

🏛️Known worldwide for its architecture, Chicago is host to an abundance of historical buildings that exemplify major architectural movements of the 20th century—from Commercial Style (a.k.a the Chicago School) to Prairie Style to International Style (or Second Chicago School). Kareem Davis and Richard Willis are Chicago artists whose work concerns the urban landscape around them. Their shared enthusiasm for the histories of buildings and other structures around the city betrays a passion for Chicago’s architecture—famed or otherwise. Davis’s line drawings of residential buildings (from luxury condos to now demolished CHA high-rises) float between architectural renderings and geometric abstraction while Willis’s drawings of water-tanks and water-towers are more expressive in character with added color and imaginative flourishes. Both these artists record and interpret Chicago’s architectural history through their personal expression. This publication is intended to capture these moments of history to share with others, and to be experienced from many perspectives—aesthetic, architectural, historical, social, and personal—while celebrating the work of these artists and the dedication to their city.
