I don’t usually post political stuff but I want to share a little about my family history with y’all
Feel free to scroll on if you want, apologies for the length ❤️
Both sets off my grandparents came to the U.S. as the result of the actions of N**i Germany.
My paternal grandparents managed to escape Poland to the US after the N**is invaded but my maternal grandparents had their homes seized and were trapped in Lithuania until their town was liberated by Allied forces. After that they lived at a displaced people’s camp in Germany for 5 years. (They were holding out for a ticket to the US, turning down chances to go to the UK and Australia). My mom was just barely born in the US, my grandma being pregnant with her on the boat ride over.
Fascists and perpetrators of genocide were the reason my family had to leave their homes, and not too long ago in the past. Invaders and war criminals, people who felt a right to take and plunder someone else’s home are why I don’t know much of my extended family, as most of those my grandparents knew in their countries were either killed or disappeared.
And it chills me to think that this is all happening again, all so soon and once again me and my loved ones sit, pray and watch in horror.
I have nothing positive to end on, I’m sorry. I have no words of advice, no silver linings. I only hope you and your loved ones are safe tonight, because thousands of others’ are not.
***If you are Ukrainian and see this, the Polish and Lithuanian border is open!!! Russia is spreading propaganda that it is closed but that is a lie. The Polish government has made a website to help you: ua.gov.pl
Please share this information if you know anyone seeking help right now.
YOU DON'T NEED A VISA TO PASS THROUGH THE POLISH BORDER. ALL YOU NEED IS A PASSPORT. VISAS ARE SUSPENDED! YOU DON'T NEED THEM FOR THE TIME BEING!!!
