💌 Grateful for the invitation to celebrate personal milestones with our German dance family!

In addition to commemorating a Silver Wedding Anniversary and a pair of Golden Birthdays, it was a pleasure to personally extend heARTfelt gratitude to norddeutschekonzertdirektion for a decades-long pARTnership with Hubbard Street 2 and DanceWorks Chicago, built on belief, trust, mutual inspiration (and perspiration), support, respect, creativity, and love.

So many people touched.

The ☀️ has set on SEASON 18+.

Team DWC has been on board with a fade to black that is filled with gratitude, joy, commUNITY, and, yes, even fun!

Whether you were with us in person or in spirit for last week’s Sunset Cruise, the day of DWC’s final public event turned out to be a metaphor of sorts for the Art of the Journey: It’s not always smooth sailing; however, it’s important to practice showing up even when (especially when) you are unsure of the outcome. Good things can happen! ART.IS.TRY.

🛥️ And the Sunset Cruise was magical.

🌅 Join the DanceWorks Chicago family and set sail with Wendella on their popular Sunset Cruise as Team DWC continues its journey to sunset!

DanceWorks Chicago is proud to have contributed to the city’s cultural landscape, so let’s celebrate the city and what we have achieved together by enJOYing views of the skyline and being in commUNITY!

DATE: Wednesday, August 5
TIME: 7pm-8:30pm (boarding begins at 6:30pm)
LOCATION: Board at the Wendella Dock, 400 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611
DURATION: 90 minutes
TICKETS: $20 for children ages 4-12 (children under 4 years old are free), $45 for adults

NOTE: This is a public cruise (not a private rental). Please refer to the Wendella website for information; contact Wendella directly with questions and to purchase tickets.

BONUS: Navy Pier Summer Fireworks include shows at 9pm on Wednesdays, so for those who want a little post-sunset cruise afterglow, there is an option to catch the 10-minute show once you disembark from the boat.

⭐️ DanceWorks Chicago is on the other side of AlwaysMoving Day, having moved out of the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, our home since January 2008, earlier this month.

🙏🏼 Grateful to Gail Kalver for the introduction and to the Ruth Page Center for welcoming a new neighbor to the in-residence commUNITY over 18 years ago! Thanks, Team RPC, for hosting a fare well event so that folks could pop in to say “hello”, check out DWC memorabilia before it was delivered to The Newberry Library to join the archives (what an honor!), and contribute a memory to the post-it board!

Approaching sunset, Team DWC continues to center individual artists as well as keep money circulating in the sector.

🤩 Chicago-based artists showed up and showed out this spring, making their cases for professional development and staking their claim to money set aside in DWC’s Microgrant Fund. Every dollar has been spoken for, so the application portal is officially closed (yes, in advance of the June 30 deadline...remember the rolling assessment approach?!).

2️⃣1️⃣ Chicago-based movers successfully submitted materials and were granted support for participation in growth opportunities offered locally, nationally, and internationally!

💰Team DWC crafted its first-ever microgrant to benefit individual artists as well as keep money circulating in the sector. Grantees received funding for studies in ballet, composition, contemporary, Countertechnique, Dunham technique, flamenco, FOCO technique, Fosse technique, improvisation, jazz, modern, repertory, voice, and more! Reading about plans, dreams, goals, and dance citizenship has been exciting and inspiring!

👏🏼 Kudos to all who reached out, and congrats to grantees who were awarded funding to support their ongoing education.

🚨Attention Chicago-based dancers! Dreaming about summer plans? DanceWorks Chicago can support your artistic growth!

🌅 DWC’s MICROGRANT season is winding down! Applications from Chicago-based movers 18-30 years young working in any dance genre are being accepted for microgrants of up to $500 for tuition-based professional development offerings. Team DWC crafted this opportunity to support individual artists as well as keep money circulating in the sector.

➡️ Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis (meaning as they are submitted). The microgrant fund is almost at capacity with 85% of grants allocated. The application deadline is June 30; however, when funds are depleted, that’s it. NO exceptions.

Avoid disappointment and get movin’!
