Couple of new rules for 2023 to be aware of
12.10.9. Breakaway ropes are to be tied at the very end of rope with Fully intact #18 brightly colored twisted/ braided Mason line string secured with minimum of 3 knots to saddle. Subject to random checks by judges. If contestant fails to use proper equipment, she will be disqualified. Bright cloth with minimum dimensions of six inches by six inches (6”x6”) must be attached to end of rope
Side note: although there is white Mason line string, please use the brightly colored string so judges can glance from front of box. The intent behind this is for all ropes to pop sharp from horn to help in flagging process.
Judges also request the "bright Cloth" ( flag) stay bright... no dirty white flags. Try to secure them in a way they can't come off, even if they get pinched under your leg during the run. Both points were addressed at judges seminar recently.
12.10.14. Once a contestant calls for her calf, no further assistance can take place. No physical outside assistance can take place from assistant after contestant call for her calf, including but not limited to: whipping/slapping, movement with, in front or behind, the horse as it leaves the corner/box, or holding/pulling the rein. If the helper starts the horse or holds the horse in any way that affects the scoring process, contestant will receive a no time
