What is Creative Aging?

Creative aging programs use the arts to support lifelong learning, social connection, and creative expression for older adults.

The Wyoming Arts Council's Creative Aging Project Grant helps organizations bring professionally led arts experiences to participants ages 55+ through programs such as:

• Visual arts
• Creative writing
• Music and dance
• Theater arts
• Folk and traditional arts
• Intergenerational arts projects

Creative aging isn't about keeping busy. It's about learning new skills, building community, and staying creatively engaged throughout life.

There’s still time to register for Plein Air in the Parks 2026 at Guernsey State Park Guernsey State Park!

Artists are invited to spend five days painting, drawing, and creating outdoors while exploring one of Wyoming’s most scenic state parks. From dramatic cliffs and historic CCC structures to reservoir views and wide-open landscapes, Guernsey offers plenty of inspiration.

🗓 June 24–28, 2026
📍 Guernsey State Park | Guernsey, Wyoming

Registration includes:
• Access to all participating painting locations
• Park entry fees during the event
• Up to two entries in the judged exhibition
• Eligibility for cash awards and the People's Choice Award

The event concludes with a public reception, show, and sale where visitors can meet artists, view completed work, and purchase artwork.

There is just one week left to enter the America 250 T-Shirt Design Contest hosted by the Wyoming State Fair Foundation Wranglers.

Artists of all ages are invited to create original designs celebrating Wyoming and America’s 250th anniversary. Winning designs will be featured on official merchandise available during the Wyoming State Fair.

The contest includes both Youth and Adult divisions, with cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.

Organizers encourage hand-drawn designs whenever possible and look forward to seeing original artwork that showcases Wyoming creativity and pride.

If you could ask a park a question, what would you ask?

Join artists John Wilhelm and Jess Brauer at Curt Gowdy State Park for a unique storytelling workshop exploring Wyoming's past, present, and future through observation, reflection, sound, and the written word.

📍 Sherman Hills Day-Use Shelter, Curt Gowdy State Park

Participants will visit locations throughout the park and respond to prompts such as:

• What has changed here?
• What has always been here?
• Who belongs in this story?
• What do we hope for next?

Using writing, conversation, and optional audio recording, participants will document their discoveries before coming together for a group discussion about the park, their community, and themselves.

Open to all ages and backgrounds. Writing materials will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring a phone or portable recording device if they wish.

📸 Slow down and see the landscape through a photographer's lens.

Join photographer Shawn Bush at Glendo State Park for Reading the Landscape: Water, Infrastructure, and North Platte River, an outdoor program that explores the connections between water, land, and the structures people build within the landscape.

Participants will take a guided walk through the park, learning how photographers observe patterns, relationships, and details that are often overlooked. Along the way, Shawn will share techniques for looking more closely at the world around us and using photography as a tool for observation and discovery.

No photography experience is required. Participants are welcome to bring a camera or phone, but neither is necessary.

Explore identity, culture, community, and connection through art, music, poetry, and performance at Different but SAME, a new multidisciplinary exhibition presented by SAGE Community Arts in Sheridan.

Bringing together visual artists, musicians, poets, and performers from diverse backgrounds, the exhibition explores the experiences that make us unique while highlighting the shared humanity that connects us all.

Featured artists and performers include Ben Pease, Bruce Cook, Robert Martinez, Jamie Chaves, Joel Garcia, Suzy Gonzalez, Kevin Johnson, Sue Sommers, Chris Simms, Lena Newlin, Jason Shogren, James Pakootas, and CarliAnn Forthun.

🎨 Calling all artists! ⏰ Submission Deadline: June 5, 2026

Jackson Hole Public Art and St. John's Health Foundation are seeking artists to join a new Healing Art Database that will serve as a resource for artwork displayed throughout St. John’s Health facilities.

Artists working in all mediums are encouraged to apply. Both 2D and 3D works will be considered, with a focus on artwork that helps create calming, welcoming, and restorative healthcare environments for patients, families, and staff.

Preferred themes include:
• Nature and landscape imagery
• Healthy wildlife
• Natural colors and organic forms
• Concepts inspired by wind, water, and air
• Positive human interactions and connection

Selected artists whose work is chosen for temporary display will receive a $500 stipend, with artwork displayed for an initial one-year term.

Artists may submit up to 10 original works for consideration.

Volunteers needed!

The Capital City Celebration commemorating America’s 250th anniversary is seeking additional volunteers to help with activities throughout the day on July 4 in Cheyenne.

Volunteer opportunities include:
• Assisting with kids' games and activities
• Supporting arts and crafts stations
• Crowd guidance and guest assistance
• Helping monitor restricted access areas

Volunteer shifts are just 2–2½ hours, making it easy to lend a hand and still enjoy the festivities.
