{2026 WYO ROAD TRIP PLAYLIST} Artist Feature: Kalyn Beasley | Hell On Women & Horses

Wyoming native Kalyn Beasley is an award-winning songwriter, storyteller, and performer whose music is deeply rooted in the people, places, and traditions of the American West. Drawing inspiration from life as a cowboy, rodeo hand, pilot, bookseller, and outdoorsman, Beasley crafts songs that celebrate Wyoming’s landscapes and culture. His 2025 album, Ranchin’ Rich, was recorded in Austin, Texas, with producer Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly.

The Casper Celtic Irish Fest returns Aug. 28–29 for two days of live music, dance, cultural traditions and hands-on activities at the Ramkota in Casper.

This year’s festival will feature performances by The Harp Twins featuring The Volfgang Twins, The Steel City Rovers, On the Lash, Keith O’Brien, the Michael Patrick Gallagher School of Irish Dance and Davy Holden.

Throughout the weekend, attendees can also explore Irish history and Celtic artwork and music, along with demonstrations and workshops in Celtic knot art, Irish dance, ancient weapons and the traditional sport of hurling. Former Wyoming Gov. Mike Sullivan will join the festival as a special guest speaker at noon Saturday.

The arts were at the heart of Wyoming's Capitol City Celebration on July 4.

As thousands gathered in Cheyenne to commemorate America's 250th anniversary, Wyoming artists and performers helped bring the celebration to life through music, dance, demonstrations, and cultural traditions from across the state.

The Wyoming Arts Council was proud to help coordinate arts and cultural experiences throughout the day, including the inaugural Wyoming Folklife Festival and performances by the Wind River Dancers, Las Angelitas Unidas y Los Rayos del Sol, Reesie Rae, Missy Jo, Jalan Crossland, the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, and the 67th Army Band.

Thank you to the artists and performers who shared their work and to everyone who stopped to watch, listen, learn, participate, and celebrate with us.

Museum professionals are invited to the next Museum Minds Collaborative session, focused on practical approaches to accessibility in museums.

All Are Welcome: Accessibility in Museums will feature Jen Sabo, executive director of Arts4All Florida, who brings experience working both within museums and in disability advocacy.

The session will explore the everyday situations museum staff may encounter, from responding when a visitor requests a modification to understanding disabilities that may not be visible, using inclusive language and navigating questions around service animals. Participants will leave with practical ways to recognize barriers, respond with confidence and build accessibility into the visitor experience.

A new exhibition at the Wyoming Capitol celebrates the legacy of Buffalo pharmacist Jim Gatchell and how one person’s curiosity and civic spirit helped preserve the stories of a community.

“A Prescription for History: The Legacy of Jim Gatchell” opens Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Capitol Gallery. Featuring artifacts, artwork and photographs from the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, the exhibition offers visitors a window into the history of northeastern Wyoming through objects from Gatchell’s original collection and the museum that grew from it.

An opening reception will be held Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon, with remarks from Gov. Mark Gordon, Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum Executive Director Sylvia Bruner and Wyoming State Museum Capitol Curator Nathan Doerr. Light refreshments will be served.

Following Gatchell’s death, his family donated his collection to the people of Johnson County with the understanding that a museum would be established to care for it. The Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum opened in 1957 and, in 2023, received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor for museums and libraries.

“A Prescription for History” will be on view Aug. 29, 2026–March 12, 2027, bringing a piece of northeastern Wyoming to the Capitol Gallery and giving visitors from across the state and beyond an opportunity to experience the stories held by one of Wyoming’s local museums.

The Broadway Theater in Rock Springs has announced its 2026–27 season, bringing a wide range of live performances to downtown Rock Springs from September through May.

The 13-show mainstage season includes classical music, ballet, country, rock and pop, family programming and more. Highlights include the Piatigorsky Tour featuring pianist Victor Asuncion, Swan Lake: Symphony of Lights, The Nelsons, The Nutcracker: Symphony of Lights, Keith Anderson, The Jersey Tenors and a tribute to the music of John Williams.

Beyond the mainstage, The Broadway Theater continues to host smaller events in The Loft, local and touring productions, community programming and other arts experiences as part of Downtown Rock Springs’ Railside Arts & Culture District.

Several performances are presented in partnership with the Sweetwater County Community Concert Association, and programming at The Broadway is supported in part by the Wyoming Arts Council.

Thinking about nominating an individual, organization, business or community for a 2026 Governor’s Arts Award, but not sure if they’ve received one before?

The Wyoming Arts Council maintains a list of past Governor’s Arts Awards recipients dating back to the program’s beginning. You can find the complete list at the bottom of the Governor’s Arts Awards webpage.

Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the award again, but past nominees who were not selected are encouraged to be nominated again.

Not seeing the person or organization you have in mind? This could be the year to tell us their story.

Nominations for the 44th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards are open through Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. MST.

The 2026 Wyoming Archaeology Fair returns to Laramie on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a full day of hands-on activities, demonstrations, performances and opportunities to explore Wyoming’s archaeology and history.

Hosted by the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site and the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office as part of Wyoming Archaeology Awareness Month, the free event will feature more than 30 booths and activity stations. Visitors can try atlatl throwing, flintknapping, pottery making, ancient food preparation, mock excavations, rabbit hide painting, Plains Indian Sign Language and more.

This year’s fair will also include blacksmithing demonstrations, living history from Fort Laramie, live music by the Twaynes throughout the day and a performance by the Wind River Dancers at 1 p.m.

Tunes on the Trail heads to Hot Springs State Park this Saturday, Aug. 22, with live music from Pathfinder!

The band brings together Heath McAteer, John May, Dyllon Boyer and Jason Murdock, four lifelong musicians whose original songs draw inspiration from the outdoors, the mountains and the human experience.

Start the evening with an optional 2–2.5 mile hike along the Zoo and Quarry Trails, then settle in for a free 90-minute outdoor concert at the Pavilion.

Saturday, Aug. 22 | Hot Springs State Park
Hike: 5:30 p.m. | Meet at the Pavilion
Pathfinder: 7–8:30 p.m. | Pavilion

Admission to Hot Springs State Park and the concert are free. Bring a chair or blanket for the performance, and come prepared with water, sunscreen, bug spray and appropriate footwear if you plan to hike.

The arts don’t exist in isolation. Artists, organizations, educators, funders and communities are all part of a larger, interconnected ecosystem.

Join the Wyoming Arts Alliance and Wyoming Arts Council on Friday, Aug. 21, for The Arts Ecosystem, the next session in the Online Arts & Culture Series.

This professional development conversation will look beyond traditional hierarchies and transactional relationships to explore how Wyoming’s creative sector can build stronger connections, sustainable partnerships and shared resilience. Panelists will discuss practical strategies for initiating relationships, sustaining them over time and recognizing the mutual benefits different parts of the arts ecosystem can offer one another.

Whether you’re an individual artist, community arts organizer, educator or arts administrator, the session offers an opportunity to think more broadly about your role within Wyoming’s creative community and how we can strengthen the sector together.
