For those of you who don’t know, my family and I had a heartbreaking end to 2025. My Grandpa Wayne passed away the day after thanksgiving within the comfort of his own home.
From the 1980’s to the early 2000’s, Wayne owned a gas station in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. Where he served his community and was greatly appreciated. Growing up, I would always see this “Stielow Oil Company” sign in their garage and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It wasn’t until this last year that I really started doing research on the station. I started going through every single photobook that I could find in my grandparents house. I was looking for anything that slightly resembled the station. After a couple weeks of searching I did end up finding a couple photos and I was extremely happy.
After doing all this research and digging on the gas station, I found out that they had never really had an official logo. And I just happen to know a guy who likes designing logos. So I started off on my very own design project that was very dear to my heart. I set a couple rules for myself before I started to design, keep it simple, use colors that resemble the station, and keep the logo close to its roots. The station had been a Sinclair and also an Aamco/Standard gas distributor during its time. I decided to use the colors from the Standard gas logo in my final design.
Papa ended up passing before I could show him any final products, but I know he would’ve loved it. I decided to take the logo a step further and make hats for my family and friends as a Christmas gift to everyone.
We love you Gramps, you will be forever missed. You were the kindest person this world has known.
