Meet the artist if WOW!

Judith Goodman, Sculptor

After many years as commercial and fine art photographer I became interested in making sculpture as a way to move my images into three dimensions. From there the natural progression involved finding beauty and intensity in objects beyond their original purpose. The work is emotionally, rather than intellectually, inspired. Much of it has been influenced by recent wars degradation of the climate. The assemblages are fragmented narratives illustrating the frailty of recollection. They are incongruous: mixing scale, texture, natural and manmade elements that have exceeded their useful life and progressed to another state.

Meet the artists of WOW!

Trinka Roeckelein is a native Washingtonian who has developed a deep appreciation for conservation while on many safari trips to Botswana. She earned her undergraduate degree from Duke University and then her MFA in design from George Washington University, prior to a career as a real estate agent and acclaimed artist. She hopes her animal sculptures will elicit smiles and inspire respect for animals and the environments needed to sustain them.

Ch/Art, a Chevy Chase community arts organization, is pleased to present WOW! (Windows on Wisconsin) featuring art by Nancy Arbuthnot, Sara Bardin, Ruth Becker, Judith Goodman, Ronni Jolles, Trinka Roeckelein, and Xiaowei Song.

Exhibit December 9, 2021 – March 10, 2022

WOW! will command the attention of passing pedestrians and cars who will be drawn to 5510 Wisconsin Avenue to view this dynamic display of the creativity of neighborhood artists.
This novel approach to viewing an exhibit in windows at any time day or night, provides a new way to enjoy art without restrictions.

WOW! brings the work of local artists, who are members of Ch/Art, an arts nonprofit, to the attention of the community. This display will run for a full year through December 2022. The curated shows will present the work of several artists at a time for a three-month period. New shows will be selected for the spring, summer and fall of 2022.

Ch/Art (chevychaseart.org) was founded in 2018 and has a membership of 110 artists who work in painting, sculpture, glass, photography, jewelry, fiber art, ceramics and other media. It offers the community opportunities to access art and engage in art making through educational and hands-on experiences.

Meet the artists of WOW!

In 2009, Sara Bardin started creating art to relieve herself from the daily stresses of life. After visiting the national US Botanic Garden, she became inspired to paint flowers. She found that a flowers beauty, color, and texture evoke deep emotions. The color and artistry of her botanicals renderings conveys this emotion and when people see her work, she hopes that it will elicit feelings and/or memories. Ms. Bardin has a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from the University of Dayton and has studied painting at The Compass Atelier.
