👕 Spotted at the Fair: Red, White & Blue Tie-Dye!

One thing was pretty easy to spot around the fairgrounds this year… our 2026 Saginaw County Fair shirts! ❤️🤍💙

From volunteers and superintendents to entire Fair families, we loved seeing this year's red, white and blue tie-dye popping up all over the grounds during Fair week.

One of the special ways we celebrated America’s 250th anniversary at the 2026 Saginaw County Fair was through our People’s Choice Quilt Square Contest!

This contest was open to everyone — not just Fair exhibitors — and we loved seeing the creativity that came through in this year’s patriotic designs. Fairgoers had the chance to view the entries throughout the week and cast their votes for their favorites.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day from the Saginaw County Fair! 🐾

Today we're celebrating some very special members of our fair family — the dogs of the Saginaw County Fair Dog Department! ❤️

From agility and obedience to rally and showmanship, our exhibitors and their dogs put teamwork, training and plenty of practice on display each year. Whether they're sailing over a jump, navigating an obstacle, stepping into the show ring or simply taking a well-earned break together, there's something pretty special about the bond between a dog and their person.

And here's something you may not know:

The Dog Department would love to welcome new participants!

If you have a dog at home and have ever wondered what it might be like to train, show or compete together, this could be a great way to become part of the Saginaw County Fair. Opportunities are available through the Dog Club as well as Open Class, so you don't have to already be an experienced exhibitor to start exploring what's possible.

Fair isn't just about what happens during one week in August. It's about learning new skills, working toward a goal, meeting people who share your interests — and, in this department, doing it all alongside your four-legged best friend. 🐶

The Fair may only last five days, but the moments made here last much longer. ❤️

From midway laughs and friendly competition to creativity, traditions, friendships and time spent together, there were so many moments happening across the Saginaw County Fairgrounds this year.

Some were big. Some were simple. And some were the little in-between moments that make Fair week so special.

We captured far more than we could possibly share while the Fair was happening — so we're not done yet. Over the next several weeks, we'll be looking back at more of the people, animals, exhibitors, volunteers and memories that made the 2026 Saginaw County Fair one to remember.

❤️ Honoring a familiar face and longtime friend of the Saginaw County Fair.

Those who knew Bernie Coonrod know just how much of himself he gave to the Chesaning community and to the Saginaw County Fairgrounds.

Bernie passed away earlier this year, and while his presence was deeply missed at this year's Fair, we were grateful to have the opportunity to honor him in a very special way.

During the opening ceremony of the 2026 Saginaw County Fair, the Chesaning American Legion used Bernie's American flag as part of our ceremony. 🇺🇸

Following the Fair, that flag was placed in a special display case, and at our recent volunteer picnic, we had the privilege of presenting it to Bernie's family.

It was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much of his time to this place.

For years, Bernie could be found helping care for our Fairgrounds — mowing and helping keep the grounds looking their best for everyone who came through our gates.

But Bernie didn't just help make the Fairgrounds look good.

He helped make the Fair a little more fun, too. ❤️

Fairgoers might remember Bernie appearing during Fair Week in one of his costumes, simply because he enjoyed surprising people and making them smile.

And Bernie's giving spirit extended well beyond the Fairgrounds. He generously shared his musical talents throughout the community, including with residents of local nursing homes.

🎶 The video we're sharing with this post captures one of those little moments we're especially grateful to have.

In 2025, Bernie stopped by the Fair office after volunteering his time playing music at a local nursing home. With St. Patrick's Day approaching, he treated us to an Irish lullaby, too. ☘️🎶

We're awfully glad someone thought to hit record. ❤️

There are some people whose contributions can't really be captured by a job title or a list of things they accomplished.

They simply become part of a place.

Part of its stories.
Part of its traditions.
Part of the memories people carry with them.

Bernie was one of those people.

We were honored to have Bernie's flag be part of the opening of the 2026 Saginaw County Fair and honored to present it to his family afterward as a small recognition of a man who gave so much of his time, talents and heart to our Fairgrounds and community.

Thank you, Bernie. Your legacy remains part of the Saginaw County Fair. 🇺🇸❤️

Apparently, the animals had just as much fun at the Fair as we did. 😂🐴🐐🐇

From curious goats keeping an eye on the midway and rabbits soaking up a little attention… to some very expressive faces and horses discovering that Fair food is pretty hard to resist — there were plenty of personalities on display at the 2026 Saginaw County Fair!

Of course, behind every one of these moments are the exhibitors who spend countless hours caring for, working with and getting to know their animals. ❤️

And sometimes that means learning an important lesson:

Never turn your back on your cotton candy. 🍭🐴😂

Behind every great Fair are people who give their time, talents and heart to make it happen. ❤️

At our recent Saginaw County Fair volunteer picnic, we had the privilege of recognizing four individuals whose service and leadership have made a difference at our Fair.

🏆 2026 Diane Keinath Youth Volunteer of the Year Award
Congratulations to Makayla Zelinko and Tabitha Norris!

Makayla and Tabitha were recognized for the leadership they demonstrated in the barns throughout Fair Week. Both were also part of this year's Junior Livestock Donation Animal program — another example of their willingness to step up, get involved and give back.

🏆 2026 Volunteers of the Year
Congratulations to Dick Borm and Art Thiel!

Dick has been part of the Saginaw County Fair for decades. A former Fair Board member and longtime Farm Antiques Still Exhibit Superintendent, he continues to share his time, knowledge and dedication with our Fair year after year.

Art is one of those volunteers whose work often happens behind the scenes but makes an enormous difference. During Fair Week, he helps keep our grounds clean and takes care of the seemingly never-ending job of handling trash throughout the Fairgrounds.

Makayla and Dick were able to join us at the picnic to receive their awards, while Tabitha and Art were unable to attend.

To Makayla, Tabitha, Dick and Art — congratulations, and thank you. Your leadership, hard work and willingness to serve represent so much of what makes the Saginaw County Fair special.

And to all of our volunteers — whether you've been part of this Fair for decades or joined us for the first time this year — thank you for every early morning, late night and job, big or small, that helped make the 2026 Saginaw County Fair possible. ❤️

💵 2026 Exhibitors — Don't Forget to Cash Your Premium Checks!

All 2026 Saginaw County Fair premium checks have now either been picked up or mailed, so please be sure to keep an eye out for yours!

Once you receive your check, we ask that you deposit or cash it as soon as possible so it doesn't get tucked away and forgotten.

And an important reminder from our Fair Treasurer:

➡️ Not cashing your premium check does NOT automatically donate that money back to the Saginaw County Fair.

If you would like to make a donation to the Fair, we certainly appreciate your support — but simply leaving a premium check uncashed does not count as a donation, so contact the office if this is your intention!

Be sure to check the mail, check that stack on the counter, and check the bag you brought home from Fair Week. 😉 If you've got a Saginaw County Fair premium check, please get it cashed!

What do you have tucked away at home with a story worth telling? 👀

For first-time Saginaw County Fair exhibitor Deb, the answer was an old cowboy saddle that's been in her family for more than 50 years.

And there's still a little mystery surrounding how it got here.

The saddle bears the maker's mark of F.A. Meanea of Cheyenne, Wyoming, a saddle and leather maker whose history reaches back to the days of the American West. Deb researched the maker and included that history as part of her exhibit.

What her family doesn't know is exactly how the saddle made its way from Cheyenne all the way to Michigan.

There are clues in the saddle itself, too. Deb noted that it has two different styles of stirrups—a wooden "doghouse" style and a metal-bound "oxbow" style. Her family believes one stirrup may have needed replacing somewhere along the way.

Rather than restore it or try to make the pieces match, they've left it just as they received it.

And this year, after more than 50 years in her family, Deb decided to do something new with it:

She brought it to the Saginaw County Fair.

As a first-time exhibitor, Deb entered this piece of her family's history—and it earned a blue ribbon. 💙

That's one of the things we love about Still Exhibits.

Not every exhibit begins with "Look what I made."

Sometimes it begins with "Let me tell you the story behind this."

Our exhibit buildings are filled with pieces of the lives and stories of people in our community—things we've grown, baked, preserved, created, collected, photographed and carefully kept.

After this year's Fair, we've already heard from people interested in becoming exhibitors for the first time next year. And stories like Deb's are a wonderful reminder that you may already have something worth exhibiting.

So take a look around your house, your workshop, your garden—or maybe even your family's attic.

From tractors and pulling power to flying dirt bikes, crashing cars and bucking bulls, there was a little bit of everything happening in the Grandstands during the 2026 Saginaw County Fair!

💥 Thursday: TNT Figure 8 Demolition Derby
🏍️ Friday: SJO Motocross
🐂 Saturday: Lost Nations Rodeo

Each night brought something different — and you showed up to cheer them on! ❤️
