It’s tempting to throw every rudiment you know into a four-bar break, but the best drummers know that space is a note too.
A "bad" fill disrupts the pocket and makes the vocalist/band feel unsupported. A "musical" fill acts as a bridge, leading the listener naturally into the next section.
Today’s Challenge:
Record yourself playing a groove. Instead of your "go-to" fast fill, try playing a fill using only 8th notes. Focus on the dynamics and the "destination" (the 1).
