Cherokee Trout Derby FREE fishing, activities, music, and fun for the kids! Registration & Liability forms are available at www.cherokeetroutderby.com to 6 p.m.

Introduce your kids to a love of fishing at this free two-day event. On Friday, dive into excitement at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds for zip lines, attractions, and free fishing gear for eligible participants. Arrive at Oconaluftee Islands Park on Saturday for hours of fishing fun with $20,000 in prizes, celebrity guests, live animal exhibits, and more. Cherokee fishing permits are available f

or purchase for persons 12 and older at a variety of locations listed on FishCherokee.com or at the Cherokee Welcome Center. Pre-register August 5 from 10 a.m. at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds. Entry is free and includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

Save the date:
2024 Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby
Registration opens at 10am on Friday, August 2, 2024 and closes at 6pm.
Saturday, August 3, 2024 Registration will open at 6am and close at 10am or until we reach 2,000. Fishing will start at 8am and end at 12pm.
Make sure you save the date and get your rooms and campsites booked.

This years Registration Location for the Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby on August 4th will be at the parking lot beside Above and Beyond, which is on Tsali Blvd. and right before you get to the Great Smokey Mountains entrance. The address is 2093 Tsali Blvd., Cherokee, NC 28719.

The Talking Trees Children Trout Derby will be August 4th and 5th, 2023. Registration will be moved to a different location this year and as soon as we determine that location I will post the address for it on here. The Derby will still be at the Oconaluftee Island.

We are excited to announce our 20th Annual Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby will be August 7, 2021. We will have registration day on August 6, 2021. However, registration day will not be like it normally is. We will only be registering people and wanting them to leave once they are registered. We will not have any entertainment or ball drops on this day. Please follow this page for more updates and information on the Trout Derby.

The 19th Annual Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby that is scheduled for July 31, 2020 & August 1, 2020 has been canceled. Please understand that due to the circumstances and uncertainty of Covid 19 we feel this decision is in the best interest of the children, their families, volunteers, vendors and workers. We want everyone to be safe and continue practicing social distancing during this time. We are going to miss seeing all of you this year. However, we are looking forward to seeing you next year on August 6 & 7, 2021. We wish you all the best and thank you for your understanding. 18th Annual Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby Registration starts Friday, August 2, 2019 from 10am till 6pm at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds. The kids you are registering must be present to register. If you can’t make it Friday in time you can register your kid at the Oconaluftee Island on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 6am till 10am.
