Hello everyone! We are getting ready to start back up for the 2022-2023 school year.

- Please note that Marching Band will start the week of August 15 for all students, as scheduled. However, the parent meeting scheduled for tomorrow is CANCELLED.

- We will also NOT be having early color guard or drumline practices; everyone will start together on Tuesday August 16.

- Please make plans to stop by the MHS Band Room on August 15th to be sized for your uniform, check out a school instrument, and get your music and flip folder.

Stay *tuned* for more info! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone after what has felt like a very quick summer. Feel free to message me with any questions.

Seniors, tomorrow’s the day! It wasn’t the year anyone ordered, but it’s the year we were given. And honestly, it couldn’t have happened to a better class. You are all stronger because of this, and I have never been more proud to be your teacher. I will be cheering you on tomorrow, and every day after!! Congratulations class of 2020!!

Congratulations to MHS freshman Amanda Plant for receiving a SUPERIOR rating from both judges at the Oregon Band Director Association’s Digital Solo Music Invitational! This event was a special contest for those receiving state qualifying scores at their in-person district contests earlier this year. Students submitted a video of themselves performing a solo on their instrument. Way to go Amanda!!!

Tonight, in honor of what would have been our first full trip day, I would like to share one of our Symphonic Band festival pieces, Wayfaring Stranger, arranged by Christopher Nelson. This fresh setting of the old spiritual was to be the centerpiece of our contest performance, and its meaning and history was something we had already begun to make personal to us as an ensemble. For me, this piece takes on an even deeper meaning in light of the recent circumstances and state of our world. Listen to the piece, mourn for what's lost, but remember the meaning of this song - and find great hope in what's to come. (By the way, if you aren't in band and don't know the words or history of this piece, look it up!)

Wayfaring Stranger by Christopher M. Nelson, for concert band. Available for purchase from C. Alan Publications. Learn more at http://www.christophermnelson....
