👋Hey guys, Culver here! I've been contemplating this album and enjoying it as a whole before it is released and I've decided to give a little more information and insight into what went into creating it. Perhaps there will be a video on this later but for now ill write it here. Firstly, this is an album done entirely by myself and Jordan Murren, where I did roughly 90% of the melodic instrument writing and he did 90% of the percussion and drums. We occasionally give the other person input but generally that's our current formula. I did the mixing and mastering when it was all said and done, and my wife Stacey Denman Polley did the beautiful artwork.
We started this project on an idea I had about 25 months ago that focused on a story analogy for the novelty of self and other. Simply put, we were discussing in the studio how interesting it is that all vision must find a perspective, or in our case, all sight must find eyes to see from. So the album "I Could've Been You" was born. This was not simply a musical process, we did not use formulas or start from a preconstructed format. Everything on the album was pulled from the underlying story narrative which at the current time is in simple text form only. We hope someday to bring the story to life with animation but only time will tell if that is possible.
This music comes from our deep and passionate imagination, and so it is not one simple thing, it is a complex and eclectic vision, I hope that it is clearly received but not clearly understood. Over the past few years I've been slowly realizing that life is best lived as a series of moments, and so if you would, please choose to enjoy this album as a series of moments. Let it wash over you and enjoy the spectrum of motif's and ideas. Thank you for being here as we release to the world this work that's been so deeply embedded in us. Til next time
