🎭 BIG NEWS!🎭 Chautauqua Theater Company and The Drama League are excited to expand the FutureNow Fellowship program—building on the established Directing Fellowship by introducing a new Playwriting Fellowship. Together, this Director-Playwright Development Partnership offers a stellar opportunity to collaborate, risk, imagine, and realize new work.

What’s this all about?
- The FutureNow program will now offer director + playwright pairs the chance to apply together on a play that they are developing—allowing for exploration, creative risks, and to see their work come alive.

- Selected fellows will receive financial awards, housing, mentorship, dedicated time to write, workshop and ultimately present to audiences. The workshops of these new plays will be the first performances to open the state-of-the-art RGTC with designed and staged public readings in Summer 2026.

- The workshops will include design teams, actors, tech, and audience feedback after each public performance.

- The directing fellows will continue to assistant direct and provide dramaturgical support on CTC mainstages and new play workshops throughout the rest of the season; the playwriting fellows will have other opportunities including a 5-6 week writing residency.

Applications opened September 16, and will close January 5, 2026. Two director + playwright pairs will be selected.

🎭 Huge congratulations to Tramell Tillman on his extraordinary personal achievement, and on making history as the first Black winner in the Emmys Supporting Actor category! Both a milestone for the industry and a celebration of his remarkable talent.

Chautauqua Theater Company is especially proud because Tramell is one of our own! He was a 2014 Conservatory member in ‘The Tempest’ (directed by our now–Producing Artistic Director Jade King Carroll) and returned in 2023 as a Guest Actor in CTC’s new play workshop of Chisa Hutchinson’s ‘The Bleeding Class’ which was also directed by Carroll. To see his craft celebrated on this scale is deeply inspiring.

We’re cheering you on, Tramell! 👏

Tramell Tillman ("Severance") won the Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama series, becoming the first Black man ever to win in the category. It was the only acting field that had yet to honor a Black performer in the ’ 77-year history.
