New Threads Theatre Company

New Threads Theatre Company New Threads exists to tell provocative & entertaining stories and create innovative theatrical events that start inclusive conversations and build community.

New Threads Theatre Company exists to tell provocative and entertaining stories, and create innovative theatrical events, that start inclusive conversations and build community. We accomplish this through five exciting programs:

NEW WORKS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: Identifies and works with local and national playwrights to develop new scripts from rough to final draft. IN-DIALOGUE PROGRAM: Uses a

unique format to present scaled-down “staged readings” of established plays that are immediately followed by forums, or “talk-backs” that engage audiences and theatre workers in a discussion of the work and themes presented. T-SHIRT SHAKESPEARE: Is the education and outreach program of New Threads Theatre Company. The program will be made up of 6-8 New Threads Theatre Company associate members, who will tour schools (K-12) and perform scaled down productions of classical and academically required texts (i.e: Macbeth, The Crucible.) FUNDAMENTALS REGIMEN: New Threads Theatre Company members and associate members will meet for physical acting training every other week for three hours. The Fundamentals Regimen will provide the company with a weekly time to grow as individual artists and as a company, while creating a shared theatrical vocabulary. PRODUCTION PROGRAM: Mounts full-scale productions of material that has already been “work-shopped” through the New Works Development Program as well as material that has been “work-shopped” through the In-Dialogue Program. The Production Program relies on both New Works and In-Dialogue, which generate content and build audiences (respectively) to achieve the New Threads primary objective of starting conversations and building community through theatre. OUR FIRST PRODUCTION

The last weekend of July we will be launching our Production Program with David Mamet’s Oleanna. Back in January, we used this piece to launch our In-Dialogue Program by producing a staged reading of Oleanna in a living room in Corona, California to an enthusiastic audience of 21 people. This reading was followed by an audience talk-back which made it clear that we should pursue this piece to full production. WHAT MAKES NEW THREADS THEATRE COMPANY DIFFERENT? The Inland Empire region of Southern California where we are based has a rich tradition of professional level musical theatre, however, non-musical theatre is almost exclusively produced on the amateur or community theatre level. New Threads Theatre Company has the potential to build a vibrant theatre company dedicated to straight (non-musical theatre) plays and therefore become an important professional voice in the southern California theatre ecosystem. We seek to build community through inclusive conversations, which is the soul of democracy; we will do this by facilitating post-show talk-backs after every show or reading between audience and cast. We are hoping that our audience will come for the show, stay for the conversation, and become part of the community.

Today we begin in person rehearsals for tomorrow night’s one night only Staged Reading of Gillette Elvgren’s new play, “John & Salome.”

This exciting reading is a collaboration between Theatre 315 NYC and New Threads Theatre Company’s New Works Program and today, we want to give a BIG shout-out to our friends at Theatre 315 and their Artistic Director, Christopher Monroe.

Theatre 315 is pretty special. Located in the heart of Manhattan, it’s not simply a commercial Off-Broadway theatre. Theatre 315 is a professional quality performance space that operates as part of the ministry and outreach of The Salvation Army’s Times Square Corps.

At the helm is Christopher Monroe a theatre artist, writer, director, and Artistic Director passionate about the intersection of faith, storytelling, imagination, and live performance. Through Theatre 315, Chris creates space for artists and audiences to encounter meaningful stories in fresh and compelling ways.

"John & Salome" is being produced by Christopher under the direction of Joseph Frost through Theatre 315’s Oratory Lab, and we’re thrilled that New Threads’ New Works Program gets to be part of it.

This week, an amazing group of artists is coming together for a Staged Reading of Gillette Elvgren Jr.'s new play, "John & Salome," a collaboration between Theatre 315’s Oratory Lab and New Threads Theatre Company’s New Works Program.

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on two of the incredible artists at the heart of this project: Playwright Gillette Elvgren Jr. and Director Joseph Frost.

Gillette and Joseph aren’t just the driving creative forces behind "John & Salome," they’re also important pillars of the New Threads Writers Groups, where they each co-lead one of our two writers' groups.

We’re incredibly grateful for the creativity, leadership, encouragement, and mentorship these two artists pour into the New Threads community, and into the wider theatre community as well. They are the kind of artists who don’t just make theatre; they help other artists grow.

We can’t wait to see what happens when this Staged Reading of "John & Salome" takes the stage this Friday August 28th at 7:00pm at Theatre 315 in NYC. Tickets are FREE, although seating is limited. As we wrap up our celebration of the incredible artists who brought New Threads Theatre Company’s "My Name is Søren Kierkegaard" to life, today we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing Conard Belitz

Conard is a Technical Director, Stage Manager, and Sound Designer currently pursuing dual B.A. degrees in Theatre: Design and Technology and Humanities: Playwriting, Dramaturgy, and Literary Analysis at UTC.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out last night for New Thread's In-Dialogue table reading of Marsha Norman’s "’night, Mother."

It was such a joy to share dinner, conversation, and theatre with this intimate gathering of friends as we listen to Alexis Marsh and Brenda Schwab read this powerful and important Pulitzer Prize–winning play. The post reading conversation moderated by Marti Ferguson was amazing!

Thank you for bringing your curiosity, your hearts, and your love of theatre to the room. Nights like this are exactly why we do what we do. (Photo by Austin Marsh)

We’re continuing our celebration of the incredible artists who brought New Threads Theatre Company’s "My Name is Søren Kierkegaard" to life and today, we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing understudy, Albert Thrower.

Albert has taken on the daunting (and very important!) task of understudying both roles in the Kierkegaard project as we look toward taking this production to theatres and festivals around the country in 2027–2028. We’re so glad he’s part of the team.

An Atlanta-based actor, artist, and clinical social worker, Albert has appeared in several short films over the years. When he’s not acting, Albert explores experimental photography, filmmaking, animation, and all kinds of other visual media.

We’re grateful to have this talented, creative, multi-hyphenate artist in the New Threads family. Welcome to the New Threads community, Albert.

We’re continuing our celebration of the incredible artists who brought New Threads Theatre Company’s "My Name is Søren Kierkegaard" to life and today, we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing Lighting Designer, Heath Austin.

Based in Chattanooga, Heath is a freelance lighting designer whose recent credits include "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" at Covenant College; "Fly by Night" with Blank Page Theatre Company; "Our Town" and "Peter Pan" with Chattanooga Christian School; and "Guys and Dolls" at Heritage Christian School.

We’re so grateful for the creativity, skill, and artistry Heath brought to the Kierkegaard Project. Great lighting doesn’t just illuminate a stage, it helps tell the story, shape the world, and create the atmosphere. Heath did all of that beautifully.

Thanks, Heath, for helping us bring Søren’s world to life!

Hey NYC friends. Save the date! We are excited to invite you to a FREE Developmental Staged Reading of "John & Salome", a powerful new play by Gil Elvgren, presented by Theatre 315’s Oratory Lab in collaboration with New Threads.

--Friday, August 28 @ 7:00 PM: Theatre 315, NYC

Directed by the amazing Joe Frost and produced by Christopher Monroe of Theatre 315, this reading is an opportunity to experience a new work as it continues to develop.

"John & Salome" reimagines the final days of John the Baptist, imprisoned under Herod Antipas. In captivity, John forms a psychologically complex and unexpected bond with Salome, the teenage daughter of Herodias.

Rather than presenting Salome as merely a distant biblical figure, the play explores her as a young woman shaped by power, manipulation, and the struggle to discover her own identity within Herod’s court. Their relationship unfolds through spiritual, emotional, and political tension, leading toward the infamous moment that has echoed through history.

See you at the theatre!
