Cartesian Theater Cartesian Theater is a series of films intended to pair with readings from 3100 Critical Theory for the Visual Arts.

The films encompass a wide range of subject matter and content, with selections from collections of aesthetically and culturally relevant films. Each film is specifically selected to illustrate and highlight key concepts from the reading that it is paired with in order to aid students in understanding and absorbing the material. The films also act as a resource that students can tap into as reference while writing papers and notes. The sessions would consist of a screening, followed by a guided discussion of the content, subject, themes, and visual motifs in the films, and their relation to the content of the readings. The series would take place over the length of the semester, two screenings per week, with one being the film that is paired with the appropriate reading from 3100 Critical Theory and the second being a buffer film with lighter content. The idea being that the paired film is often intense in content and subject matter, and the second film would act as a sort of relaxation tool.
