Today is our 4 year anniversary! Meredith has saved up her money from writing poetry & we’re on the most wonderful adventure —Rome, Venice, Positano, Florence, Taizé & Paris!

We celebrated today by eating at a lovely restaurant in Venice (where we sat near at table of gondoliers on break while it rained!), a long nap & a trip to the laundromat. Meredith wrote this sweet poem about our anniversary while we waited —Lavanderia L’amore (Laundry Love).

We have many more weeks of travel ahead of us & I’m so grateful you’re my travel partner ♥️

There were so many beautiful moments at Sean & Julia’s wedding this past weekend. The toasts came straight from the heart, the tears were constantly flowing, and the large leaf magnolia blossoms were showing out all over ! Congratulations & —y’all are such a loving couple & I can’t wait to share more photos from your gorgeous wedding!
PS. This beautiful poem was written for the wedding couple by my wife last year —it was perfect for Sean & Julia & I love that she included a line about large leaf magnolias.

I’m so happy with these golden hour photos of & for their engagement session! Just before we began the shoot, Julia mentioned that they usually spend their Sunday afternoons in the park with a ukulele & a crossword puzzle (how cute is that?!) So of course I decided to capture some of these sweet, simpler moments.

Engagement sessions are some of my favorite sessions for a number of reasons:

1. They give me a chance to spend one-on-one time with a couple before the rush of the wedding day (it can all happen so fast!). Getting to know personalities of a couple & hearing their stories is so helpful (and so much fun for me) —and they get to know me a bit more too. In this case, I already knew Julia really well from working at together, but I was just meeting Sean in person for the first time. It’s a lot more enjoyable to have a photographer at your wedding who feels like one of your friends rather than a complete stranger—an outsider following you around trying to document your candid moments with your closest friends & family. After this session I felt like I had just spent an evening hanging out with my friends and I happened to have a camera with me.

2. These sessions capture everyday life & some favorite activities from a couple’s early relationship. Fun, relaxed photos like these can balance out the formality of wedding photos, and I regularly hear from clients that they hang their engagement photos around their house alongside their wedding photos.

3. You get to practice being in front of the camera! I get so nervous when I’m on the other side of the camera & it takes me a while to relax and feel comfortable. Most of us don’t have a photographer follow us around while we live our lives & it can take some getting used to. This way, you can let go of your photo jitters before your wedding and just enjoy your day!

In-person early voting starts tomorrow in Chattanooga! Cast your ballot & you could win a free photo session (valued at $250)! You don’t have to live in Chattanooga to enter, but the shoot location will be here. Steps to enter:

1. Vote between Wed Oct 14 and Sat Oct 17. (Note: Early voting lasts till Oct 29, I’m just rewarding the early birds)

2. Post a photo of yourself holding your “I voted” sticker or dropping your ballot in the mail.

3. Tag in your post and mention this contest.
