REconnect Nature School

REconnect Nature School Welcome to REconnect Nature School, a nature-based STEAM education program for middle grades. Private programs are often cost-exclusionary.

We are Jaime Peterson and Rebecca Westbrook Toker, two gals who have been in education and social work for about 20 years each. This program is a response to some gaps that we've seen in the Chattanooga educational landscape in recent years: Forest School Programs don't exist for students after elementary school. Outdoor programs aren't reaching special populations. Educational programs of all kin

ds overlook the needs of kids who have neurodivergency and/or learning differences. We've created a holistic, STEAM-focused, nature-based program that centers those concerns. We believe our kids are capable, creative, engaged learners who can achieve incredible things in a community that is thoughtfully facilitated. UPDATE! We were chosen to receive the UNfoundation grant this month for $3,000! That greatly increases our ability to make this camp an excellent week for the kiddos! We are still aiming to raise the last $1,000 so that we can give some stipends to our volunteer camp counselors! Please share and help if you can!

REconnect sponsors the Seedlings support group/chill hang community of LGBTQIA+ teens and preteens in collaboration with . Here is our monthly schedule for June! This upcoming Sunday we will be having an informational session on binders and an open Q&A for any other gender affirming care for the kiddos. Parents are invited to join us for this session.

Hey All! We are finalizing everything for our Q***r Youth Adventure Camps this summer, and we need a little community help making them happen! Right now we have 41 campers signed up, and 28 of these campers need scholarships to participate. So, we need to raise some funds to help us cover the expenses of the activities, travel, supplies, and insurance so that all these campers can have a truly magical week! $150 fully funds a camper for the week!

Last month we loaded up our F24 and headed out to to race in the Green Prix sponsored by our friends . It was long, full, exciting day of racing, problem solving, and teamwork! We couldn’t have been prouder of our racing team who built this car and worked together to make their first race day one to remember!

Our families and kiddos really pulled together to create a delicious meal, fun activities, beautiful art, and a full silent auction! Over here we are passionate about Citizen Science, so we asked the TVA STEM Ready program for a grant to install 5-6 weather stations around Chattanooga, and they awarded us the money to make it happen! This initiative will launch in the Fall of 2026! We are excited to start collecting data, mobilizing communities to be citizen scientists, and collaborate on some grassroots local climate action plans!
