Chalk one up for nature (and freshwater science), folks! Biologists working at Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute this year have successfully spawned HUNDREDS of baby Laurel Dace, one of North America's 10 most-endangered fish! 🥳👶🐟

While we are closely watching weather forecasts, the Tennessee Aquarium will be open today, Saturday and Sunday for our regularly scheduled hours.

However, we realize that travel could become tricky for guests traveling from some areas outside of Chattanooga. If needed, guests with pre-purchased tickets may rebook their visit online via a link in the ticket confirmation email. As if you needed another reason to love octopuses... here are 8 MORE! 🐙✨

Happy ! Today, we’re celebrating our mischievous and brilliant resident Giant Pacific Octopus who is always keeping our care team on their toes.

On top of having ‘9 brains’, GPOs have around 500 million neurons and more than half of them are located in their arms rather than their brain! That means each arm can taste, touch, and make decisions on its own while exploring.

The eyes, chico... they never lie. 👁️💙

Leucism and albinism are both genetic conditions that affect pigment, but there's one super easy way to tell them apart: the eyes!

While albino animals lack melanin completely (giving them red or pink eyes), leucistic animals retain the pigment in their eyes. Our tiny leucistic alligator has brilliant blue eyes, plus a cute little "hat" of melanin on its head! 🐊✨

Another year, another successful Tennessee River Rescue cleanup! 🌊 Thank you to our zone leader, 65 incredible volunteers, and WaterWays for coming together for the 38th annual .

Our aquarium team tackled the riverbanks throughout Renaissance Park and Coolidge Park, collecting more than 650 pounds of trash! 💪

'Tis the season - the underwater pumpkin carving season that is!

Join us for this Facebook Live as we kick off a new ODDtober season at the Tennessee Aquarium with one of our favorite activities!! Aquatic artisans will dive with SCUBA gear, costumes, and pumpkins to show off their carving skills under water in the Tennessee River exhibit with fish swimming by. A task that takes talent and artistry. : )

It is sure to be entertaining to watch, plus, learn more about the process from our manager of dive operations.

Hey , our penguins are molting too! 💚
Every year, our Gentoo and Macaroni penguins undergo a "catastrophic molt" meaning they lose all their feathers at once! To prep for this big transformation, they eat up to three times their normal amount to store body fat.
Because their new waterproof feathers take time to grow, they are unable to swim for a few weeks. So if you visit or tune into our live penguin cam and see them standing around looking extra FLOOFY, they're just hard at work growing their new winter coats! 🐧
