A beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we work with nature!

The newest hillside planting project is designed with both beauty and purpose in mind—90% native plants, carefully selected for erosion control and to thrive in this landscape.
What makes this project especially meaningful is where it began: from seed and cuttings collected from plants already growing within the District. It’s a reminder that you don’t need a lot of resources to create something beautiful and lasting. With a thoughtful mix of perennials, a handful of plants can become an incredibly impactful garden.
We’re also giving our materials a second life. Recycled coffee bags from our Roastery are being used as erosion control, helping hold the hillside together while the plants establish. Over time, the bags will biodegrade back into the soil, leaving the garden to continue its natural growth.

As you cross Veteran’s Bridge, this hillside will bring an entirely new layer of color and life to the view, making the experience even more impactful.
This planting will be visible from the Nature Trail and Mountain Stream, creating a new sense of place along the path—a space to slow down, find a little peace, contemplate, and simply enjoy the landscape.
